Are the Usual Suspects Behind Boycotting “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”? You Betcha!

2010 November 12

by Michelle Horstman

The Learning Channel’s (TLC) new series, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” premieres this Sunday night, Nov. 14th, despite the best efforts of her detractors to shut it down. What might appear on the surface to be an effort by those who oppose her views on conservation and hunting issues is, in reality, backed by the usual suspects who seek to shut down any voices who do not go along with their progressive agenda. Those who claim to be the biggest advocates of free speech continue to prove that their brand of free speech only applies to speech (and programming) that fits with their ideology; no others need apply.

Leading the charge to shut down the Palin series has been Michael Kieschnick, who has his hands in just about everything, working with George Soros, Jim Wallis, Andy Stern, Drummond Pike and many more.

Kieschnick seems to feel that the Discovery Channel and its affiliates were signed, sealed and delivered to the progressives, and it is clear that he is outraged that they would present anything that deviates from the agenda. It is clearly another Fox News plot! From his anti-Palin petition page :

It’s one thing if Fox News gives Sarah Palin a platform. But when Discovery Communications – home to the Discovery Channel, the “Planet Earth” series, the Science Channel, Animal Planet, and TreeHugger.com – gives a show to Sarah Palin, it undercuts everything the Discovery brand has come to represent.

That’s funny….I thought it represented making a profit…

With such a disastrous environmental track record, how could Sarah Palin get a nature show on an eco-conscious media platform like Discovery? The answer may lie in Discovery’s COO, Peter Liguori, who joined Discovery in December after a previous stint at Palin’s other TV home: Fox Broadcast Co.

Ah ha! Now we have pinned down the culprits behind allowing Palin to be seen. Evil Fox News strikes again.

Kieschnick doesn’t always spend his time wringing his hands about Sarah Palin. In fact, he is one busy progressive. As Michael Vadum wrote about recently, Michael Kieschnick has been working with George Soros through the Secretary of State (SoS) Project and was a co-founder of this effort. Vadum explains:

The purpose of the SoS Project is to destroy the remaining vestiges of electoral integrity. The group endorses left-wing, Democratic secretary of state candidates who have no respect for clean, honest elections.

Vadum continues:

According to reports filed with the IRS, members of the Democracy Alliance gave sizable contributions this year and last year to the SoS Project. Alliance member and SoS Project co-founder Michael Kieschnick, who heads Working Assets, a long distance provider that funds so-called social justice projects, gave $10,000.

He has also worked hard with George Soros to sway religious groups to vote for pro-choice candidates. According to Frances Kissling:

With support from George Soros and Michael Kieschnick, the founder of Working Assets and Credo Mobile, groups like Sojourners, Faith in Public Life and Catholics in Alliance entered the electoral arena. Catholics in Alliance and its sister organization, Catholics United, were active in voter registration and organizing Catholic voters in swing states like Ohio and Pennsylvania in 2006 and 2008. Presenting themselves as more Catholic than the pope — faithful to church teachings on contraception, abortion and everything else the majority of Catholics have long rejected — the groups insisted in press release after press release that good Catholics could vote for pro-choice candidates, so long as those candidates were also working to reduce the number of abortions.

His business CREDO Mobile, is based on promoting progressive causes:

The company, CREDO, even boasts that it has the support of President Obama as it markets itself as an agent of social change. It pitches its mobile phone services with a vow to fight for “real” health care reform, free speech, peace and the environment.

To those ends, CREDO claims it has raised $63 million for liberal causes and groups such as the ACLU, Doctors Without Borders, Planned Parenthood and Earthjustice — all the while skewering its bigger, well-established rivals AT&T and Verizon Wireless for financially supporting Republicans and moderate Democrats.

This guy must have endless energy, because he also teaches, sharing his wisdom with tomorrow’s leaders:

For many years, he was a lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, teaching a graduate seminar on financial innovation. He currently teaches a class on social innovation at Stanford University.

In 2009 Michael Kieschnick and Frannie Kieschnick were financial supporters of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in Oakland, California, which also links to Apollo and the Tides Foundation. This is starting to sound like the same old story, isn’t it?

Kieschncik also sits on the board of the radical Social Policy Organizers’ Forum Board, published by Wade Rathke, along with Deepak Bhargava, Drummond Pike (Tides), Andy Stern, and many others. The Editorial Advisory Group includes favorites such as Noam Chomsky, Janice Fine, S.M. Miller, Peter Olney, Frances Fox Piven, Heather Booth, Peter Dreier, Maya Wiley, Robert Fisher, Ashutosh Saxena, Ken Grossinger. They host the Organizer’s Forum, in partnership with…the Tides Foundation, of course.

But his busy schedule doesn’t end there. Kieschnick also serves as a board member for the League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, Sojourners (Jim Wallis), and the Beatitudes Society, which supports progressive Christians through seminary chapters and social justice fellowships.

Perhaps Sarah and The Learning Channel should be honored to be the target of such a busy man and the related organizations that have so many other progressive causes to fight for. They obviously find her a worthy cause to battle. Whether you are a fan of Sarah Palin or not, I strongly suggest you watch every minute of TLC’s production; if not for what you might learn about Palin, than just for the sheer pleasure of driving the usual suspects crazy with the ratings. Will I be watching? You betcha!

Since the liberals hate Sarah Palin, and since the liberals will certainly use clips from her show to make fun of her, shouldn’t they be happy that she has a show? Wouldn’t they want to promote her show, because they expect it to show how moronic she is, from their point of view?

You just know that Bill Maher and Jon Stewart, among others, are going to show clips from her show to demonstrate how insipid the show and Palin herself are. So why would they want to shut it down and deny all good liberals a good laugh??????

Any place that re-elects a Murkowski needs to have its support withdrawn.

Well, considering that the last time, liberal Enviro-nut James Lee tried to kill everybody at the Discovery Channel headquarters, I guess a boycott is a step in the right direction under the circumstances... (/s)

((((PING))))

As a side note, Discovery/TLC set up a Facebook page for the show two weeks ago. Liberal trolls quickly took over the comments section, trashing Sarah and demanding that the show be yanked. The Discovery/TLC mod did nothing about it except to ban the Palin supporters who were trying to expose the trolls. It was pretty pathetic!

James Lee attacks Discovery channel. Now you get a show about Sarah Palin, a woman who didn’t abort her Down’s baby.

I have always wondered how the number of viewers was calculated. Do cable companies supply statistics on what their customers select to view? I thought in years past when we received our television signals via the air waves, you had to have a set top box of some type to gather this information. Just curious.

I fully intend to view every episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska. I like her, I agree with what she stands for, and I also like Alaska having just visited there recently.

"With such a disastrous environmental track record, how could Sarah Palin get a nature show ..."

Do they just make that stuff up on the spot or is there a real track record that they are referring to?

This looks like a terrific show — and it’s up against Fox’s series on the history of American conservatism.

I can’t wait to see the show. I am very excited to see it. All of the progressives out there can kiss my behind. I am sick and tired of these loons trying to destroy this country. They see a happy woman and they can’t stand it, just like they can’t stand seeing Bristol on Dancing With The Stars..they hate it that she is still on the show just like they are upset that Sarah has her own show. The whackos have come out of the closet these last two years, the masks are off, and after their asses being handed to them last week, they have become completely unhinged. I hope the ratings for Sarah’s show hits the roof

Ms. B!! Here Here I agree. Sarah is such an outstanding and happy Patriot, the MSM doesn’t know what to do, except throw whatever they can at her. I hope her Alaska programs are huge, and for sure, she has put her state on the map!!

To the extent that the leftists push against Sarah, she has shown that she is more than capable of pushing back...even HARDER. Let them wallow in their rat droppings as they see all of their demented plans to diminish Sarah come to naught.

It’s also up against “Boardwalk Empire.” Oh, the tough choices when too many “appointment television” shows conflict!

I’ll say one thing - if it’s just another middle-of-the-road travelogue, it can get recorded and watched whenever. We seriously want to see what happens between Nucky and Rothstein. But then we’re interested in the history of NJ.
