Thanks very much, dearest Al B. !

I remember that debate *almost* like it were yesterday.

Pitiful, sleazebag Carter was babbling about 'national healthcare' ad nauseum and lying of course, but Carter was never able to recover once THE GREAT COMMUNICATOR took charge with four simple words: "there you go again" and proceded to take Carter to the woodshed and defeat!

A LOOK BACK

As you say, Al, Reagan didn’t close the sale until the debate. Palin is in much better shape politically than Regan was at this point in the 1980 cycle, and you nad I have posted on this topic ad nauseam.

Was Reagan polarizing? Of course. And his poll numbers always reflected it. His average even during his Presidency was something like 52%. He used his Presidency to accomplish things and that generated an intense hatred for him both from the Liberals (predictably) and the GOP Establishment. When Bush 41 took over, he couldn’t wait to start replacing the Reaganites. His trademark call for a kinder, gentler America (a line penned by the quisling Palin hater Peggy Noonan, who betrayed Reagan with her pen in authoring this little smear) was aimed directly at Reagan. Kinder and gentler than who? Why, Ronald Regan of course.

Gorbachev told an interviewer recently the following, which reveals how Bush 41 really felt about Reagan and his conservative supporters, the antecedents of the Tea Partiers:

Gorbachev: “By the way, in 1987, after my first visit to the United States, Vice President Bush accompanied me to the airport, and told me: “Reagan is a conservative. An extreme conservative. All the blockheads and dummies are for him, and when he says that something is necessary, they trust him.”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/29/gorbachev-george-h-w-bush_n_339147.html

Leaving aside the ingratitude associated with that statement, it is clear that the Establishment’s opinion of conservative Tea Partiers (”unsophisticated”, according to Tokyo Rove)has not changed one bit.

Do I believe Gorbachev’s account?

Absolutely. (Sorry for linking the HuffPo, but it was the fastest link to the article I could find.)

That really is not a good comparison since Mr. Reagan was not a politian at the time.

So Obama’s and Palin’s unfavorables are almost exactly the same in your words, but Palin can’t possibly win from your prior posts. Apparently you are worried that Obama will have a chance of winning. Incumbents always have a chance of winning. And conservatives (true conservatives) always poll low in out years (Reagan, Rand Paul, etc.) and often trounce their opponent in the actual election. Meanwhile moderates like McCain (and Romney) poll well in out years . . . and often lose.

Here are some reasons to consider voting for Palin:

1) She took on big oil in Alaska and won. She’s willing to take risks on behalf of the people.
2) She took on a corrupt sitting governor of her own party in Alaska and won. She’s willing to take risks on behalf of the people.
3) She’s helped bring more conservatives into Congress and the Senate than anyone in modern history. She’s on the right side of politics.
4) She’s the only major presidential prospect talking about the inflationary consequences of QE2.
5) The times are desperate. Winning with a moderate who plays at the edges of our budget will hardly slow down our nations fall at all.
6) Moderates who win end up hurting the party (Bush I, Bush II).
7) Moderates who are nominated often don’t win (Dole, McCain).
8) Palin is brilliant. She changes the rules of the game. If she is being bankrupted by progressives bringing law suits against her as Governor . . . she does the impossible . . . and steps down . . . and becomes stronger politically.
9) Obama is so unpopular that it’s an opportunity to win with a true conservative.
10) You can trust Palin.

polybius has this tendency to spam Palin thread with the same talking point. This commenter is a broken record and that’s it.

Free Republic is a political Forum and this is a thread whose title asks about "Political Future". It seems, however, that Clyde5445 and some others want Free Republic to be a "Fan Club" site dedicated solely to gushing over Sarah Palin as if they were 13 year old girls gushing over Justin Bieber.

Endlessly and emotionally gushing over a person: Now that is a broken record.

I do not post "spam". I post data defending my position and the most recent data is the following:

November 10, 2010 ... AP-GfK Poll: Sarah Palin .... 46 percent of Americans view her favorably, 49 percent unfavorably, and 5 percent don't know enough about her to form an opinion.

My evidence-based points, backed up by citing data, are these:

1. Sarah is very popular among Republicans and has a good chance of being nominated as the Republican Presidential nominee.

2. Be that as it may, Republicans comprise only 27% of all American voters making the other 73% of all voters the determining factor in winning the general Presidential Election. (This may come as a complete shock to those individuals who find it safer to spend their entire lives preaching only to their own choir.)

3. Among those other 73% of all America voters, Sarah Palin's "Unfavorable" ratings are so high that they make Sarah Palin unelectable. Even Obama, as unpopular as he is right now, would trounce Palin in the general Presidential Election according to the most recent polls.

4. The nomination of an unelectable Presidential Republican candidate will have severe repercussions for America by ensuring the reelection of Barack Obama.

The Sarah Palin Fan Club's emotion-based points are:

1. How dare anybody not think that Sarah Palin is not practically perfect in every way!

2. America willl elect Sarah Palin President because we, at the Fan Club, unquestioningly idolize her.

3. If anybody points out that Sarah Palin is a deeply flawed candidate for the general Presidential Election, that person has a "Derangement Syndrome".

4. Don't bother dealing in facts and data. We are too busy wallowing in our idolization emotions. (We and some Liberals are very much alike. We just disagree on which inexperienced political Messiah we should unquestioningly idolize, Barack Obama or Sarah Palin.)

Oh and by the way, polybius I will not respond to the “Tin Foil Hat Brigade” so save it.

Free Republic is a widely read, nationwide and even worldwide political Forum. I am not on a political Forum to convince individuals, such as Clyde5445, who blindly gush over a candidate and substitute emotion for data.

I am on a political Forum to point out the political implications of choices and back my points up with data to a wider audience. This is how it is now working:

1. I post data to back up my political position that Sarah Palin would be a "George McGovern candidate" for the 2012 general Presidential Election: Very popular with a small base that controls the Party but unelectable in the general Presidential Election.

2. The Sarah Palin Fan Club posts personal insults against me and gushes about Sarah Palin with nothing but emotion to back up their position.

3. The other readers then decide who has the stronger argument and whether it is really wise to vote for Sarah Palin in the Republican primaries.
