CANCUN, Mexico (AP) - An explosion believed to have been caused by an accumulation of natural gas killed six people and injured 15 Sunday at a resort hotel on Mexico's Caribbean coast, authorities said.
Initial reports indicate that three Canadian tourists may be among those who lost their lives in the blast, said Quintana Roo state Attorney General Francisco Alor.
The explosion happened in the lobby of the 676-room Grand Riviera Princess hotel in Playa del Carmen, which is located in Quintana Roo.

That statement is sufficiently unbelievable that, even if you are reporting something heard from "officialdom," I don't believe it. Perhaps especially if you are quoting "officialdom."
My sympathies to the families of those who got hurt or died.
I am not sure if the swamp gas build up is so unbelievable - husband and I went there for our honeymoon and went on a snorkeling tour near some swamp areas - some of those swamps are pretty stanky!! They really had a foul methane gas odor - it was horrible - I even remember joking to my husband that nobody should light a match.
Initial reports place blame on a nearby swamp and some of its gas building up under the nearby hotel, and then somehow ignited
swamp gas. now where have i heard that before
Methane is a tasteless and odorless gas.
Thanks for posting. Very interesting.
Sorry - I should have said sulfur - whatever it was it was horrible smelling!!
Methane gas is highly flammable..why is it so unbelievable? Remember that natural gas explosion in California that took out an entire neighborhood...methane or swamp gas is the same thing as natural gas..all you need is a small spark and BOOM! Remember that Mexico is a petroleum and natural gas producing country.
The entire country isinthe grips of an anarchist, drug financed meltdown.
"Bienvenidos"........B.S.!
