Subject: THE MOVIE TEST
This is amazing, and I have no idea how this works, but it does...
The Movie Test
Try this test and find out what movie is your favorite, but don't look at the movie list
till you have done the math! It will predict which of 18 films you would enjoy the most.
1. Pick a number from 1-9.
2. Multiply by 3.
3. Add 3.
4. Multiply by 3 again.
Now add the two digits together to find your predicted favorite movie in the list of 18 movies below.
Movie List:
1. Gone With The Wind 2. E.T. 3. Beverly Hills Cop 4. Star Wars 5. Forrest Gump 6. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly 7. Jaws 8. Grease 9. The Defeat of Obama in 2012 10. Casablanca 11. Jurassic Park 12. Shrek 13. Pirates of the Caribbean 14. Titanic 15. Raiders Of The Lost Ark 16. Home Alone 17. Mrs. Doubtfire 18. Toy Story
Magic!!!

It’s called finding the “digital root”. If you multiply by 9, then the resultant number will be divisible by 9. Or, equivalently, the digital root will be 9.
If you don’t find that sort of thing fascinating by high school or earlier, you’ll probably won’t be a math major. If not, maybe physicist or engineer.
Nope.
Came out with 6. Shoulda been 15.
Besides, Twelve O’Clock High wasn’t on the list. Possibly the best war movie ever made. Certainly the best on leadership in wartime.
8 1/2?
I was channeling a DU reader for effect.

First, he would have the mark, er girl, pick a 3-digit number. Then have her reverse the digits. Subtract the small number from the larger. Now, have her take that number and reverse the digits. Finally, she was to add these last two numbers together. He said he could then predict the answer and what she was thinking.
So, Mr. Lothario had previously written the answer on the napkin which was "1089", and, of course, the answer to the second question, which I will leave to your imagination.
However, Mr. Lothario didn't realize that the trick failed if the girl picked a number with the same first and last digit (also, it could fail if the mark couldn't add or subtract, which was a distinct possibly, since it was in CA). Well, sure enough, the mark picks a number like 555. I realized his goose was cooked, and started laughing.
Ah, geek humor at its worst...
Magic indeed!!! ;)
1, 2, 3 amount to
Adding on #4 amounts to:
Or:
Which amounts to :
It's a well-known fact that any multiple of 9 has digits whose sum adds up to a multiple of 9.
Good one!
Cute!
LOL- I’ll accept #9, although my favorite on the list would be ‘Star Wars’. My real faves are:
The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Return of the Jedi
Ladyhawke
Braveheart
The Crow
The Seventh Seal
Some Like It Hot
Weird Al’s UHF
News/Activism??
The Muppet Movie
2nd place: Any Pink Panther movie.
“Casablanca’’. Mine too. Greatest film of all time.
