Lisa Murkowski has officially pulled ahead in the race to be Alaska's next senator.

The latest numbers from Juneau show Joe Miller with 90,458 votes. That includes 10 write-ins credited to him.

The Division of Elections has counted 92,164 votes to Lisa Murkowski.

That number includes 7,601 votes challenged by the Miller campaign.

Ballot counting is finished for Monday.

Elections workers and volunteers will return Tuesday and continue to pore over ballots. Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell says that could continue likely until the end of the week.

Absentee votes represent the last big batch of outstanding ballots from the Nov. 2 election.

I don’t like what Murkowski did, I even find her look offensive she looks like a nasty witch.

But I don’t understand all the posts about her stealing the election. Obviously, a lot of people wrote her name in. Miller will have his challenges but if she got more votes she got more votes.

Is anyone going to check if any of the write in ballots bear the same handwriting?

She’s so despised I’d just as soon she went ahead and changed parties. But she won’t...she knows she’ll have more leverage as a RINO.

It’s the corruption of the Republican Party in Alaska. They would not accept the Primary election and backed the loser. This is because they were about to lose their pork and main backer. It has everything to do with corruption...

Actually, I hope she does! At least it will show her true leanings...

It's very difficult to win as a write in as opposed to someone already on the ballot. You have to remember that Miller beat Murkowski in the primary. Something seems fishy and I'm sure many Democrats voted for Murkowski and with Democrats comes the distinct possibility of vote fraud.

Note as well that Murkowski wants the write-in ballots judged a different way than how she proposed in the campaign.

Very sad. Another stinkin cheat and crook

Hey, cheer up. It's only a senate seat and possibly the future a free American society at stake, another check to the Democrats and John McCain.

You called?

Both Mikulski and Murkowski are Polish origin of course.

I believe Mikulski is based on "Mikula", which is a regional pronunciation of "Nicholas". It is possible that Murkowski is based on the word "murka", meaning a cat. Either that, or there is a small village Murkowo somewhere. Bur the names are definitely from different sources.

It’s called political corruption at the worst! It seems that in Alaska, you not only have to vote them out, but you have to drive a stake into their heart if you actually expect to win.

Joe Miller has 90,458 votes with none (zero) disputed and
Lisa Mircowskee has 92,164 votes which includes 7,601 votes contested or challenged.

Thus, Merekawchi has currently a 1,706 vote advantage over Joe Miller including the 7,601 contested write-in votes.

If 4,706 of Myrkowpsychi's votes are invalidated as not meeting the standard, then Joe Miller would be 3,000 votes ahead.

Of course all of this may be moot if the article got it wrong and Lisa Mirshecow leads without the contested 7,601 votes. Then Joe Miller would require a very big push from the remaining absentee and military ballots.

Many of those have been counted, on election night the totals were 81,000+ to 69,500, so Joe has received about 21,000 absentee votes and Write In about 19,000.

Politico just published that article...Why is the number of 40,000 uncounted ballots used and where did they get their information.

I thought I read earlier that there were 8000+ absentee ballots had been counted but this 40000 is above that. Then the military vote is going to be counted the 17th.

I don’t know, but in light of all this, it would seem Miller still has a good shot. Do you know how the absentee ballots are set up? Is it just Miller & the dem on them?

“And if they were enough, Democrats know how to steal or invalidate military ballots. It’s their specialty.”

Lisa is technically not a Democrat.

The articles say that the count of absentee ballots was only going to begin on Monday. Going by the totals as of close of day on Sunday and close of day Monday, Murkowski got 6,408 votes added Monday and Miller got 2,941 added Monday - which is a total of 9,349 votes added Monday. That’s nowhere near the 40,000 absentee votes said to exist.

The reporting on this is really, really pathetic. Almost as if they’re trying to keep things unclear.

I wonder what happened here..Miller beat her fair and square. Did some of those conservatives who voted for him now switch their vote for her rather than vote for Miller? This does not make a lot of sense to me...Something is fishy.

Ireally believe the Dems realized how weak their nominee was and voted for "second best". They, coupled with establishment republicans were enough to put her over the top. If she had not run , the dem would have got mpre votes.

They were counting absentee ballots since the 9th. I doubt there are many out there. If write in has 101,000, Joe has 91,000, and the Dem has about 53,000. That’s 245,000 votes counted already.

That’s slightly above normal for turnout in a US Senate race/Governor for Alaska. I just don’t believe they have more than a couple thousand absentees left, the military ballots are part of what’s been counted.

Joe lost this because many Dems and Stevens voters wrote in Murkowski. The Dem nominee for Gov got around 30% and 37% for House Rep. They are happier with Murkowski for sure then Miller but the Dem could have won this race with 37%.

I literally loathe this woman and what she has done. I can’t wish that ugly, chicken-necked skank any well wishes at all. In fact, I have quite the opposite feelings.

MSM reporting; Miller = 90,458
L.M. = 92,169 this number includes 7,601 votes Miller challenged. This said to me if Joe Miller wins just 1/2 of his challenged votes, HE WINS. not counting the Military vote. (but it's late I could be wrong.)
