As we look around the world at the countries that practice Islam as a state religion, it is almost incomprehensible that the left should defend Islam so fervently. We don't have to look to the radicals in the Taliban or Hamas to see issues that most Americans would question. Sharia Law is practiced by most Islamic centric countries, and it is in almost direct opposition to the principles on which America was established and in direct contrast to the agenda of the left in America. What is important to realize is that Sharia Law isn't an outlier, practiced by radicals like al-Qaeda, but actually the mainstream core of jurisprudence in the Islamic world.
The application of Sharia Law is incomprehensible to most Americans used to Western common law. For example, late last year, the Saudi equivalent of the Supreme Court refused to grant a divorce to an eight-year-old who was essentially sold to her fifty-year-old husband by her father. Child brides are prevalent and legal in Muslim countries governed by Sharia law. In another example, just recently, a case of a couple who were stoned to death for having sexual relations outside marriage made the news from Afghanistan, and a thirteen-year-old was stoned to death for being raped and ending up pregnant. When the leader of Iran says that there are no homosexuals in Iran at a Columbia university speech, he is saying the bare truth, as Iran frequently executes homosexuals since homosexuality is a capital crime under Sharia Law. In addition, under Sharia law, killings of children or wives for embarrassing the "honor" of a family are often tolerated and considered excusable. In Saudi Arabia, it is even taught to children that killing adulterers is a good thing. Finally, even in moderate Islamic countries...

This perverse coalition is something conservative need to aggressively highlight and exploit for political gain.
This summer at a party, I sat quietly and listened as some 20 something know-nothings went on and on about how stupid Sarah Palin was, how bigoted gay marriage opponents were, and what a shame it was that those poor Mosque builders were meeting with resistance because freedom of religion was such an important American value. When I finally had enough and asked the biggest loud mouth if he believed the mosque builders supported gay marriage, it seemed he had never even pondered the question. When I asked him further why he seemed to have far more hatred for Sara Palin than Osama bin Laden, he seemed to not know himself. The obvious answer is that he is an ignorant twit, simply spouting the company line to fit in with his crowd, and is too shallow to see the contradiction in his half-baked positions.
In spite of the box I'd like to think I skillfully maneuvered him into, I'm sure he left the party that night still an ignorant little liberal, and is one today. Still, there has to be an opening here in the persuasion business. Young lefties are walking around with a massive contradiction in their heads: Sara Palin is a religious fanatic and idiot that must be mocked and despised. Fanatical Muslims that would just as soon saw your head off with a rust knife as look at you need first amendment protections.
When Whoopie and Joy walked off the stage, it was a clear demonstration the deep down, even these idiots know their position is untenable.
Somewhere there is a huge political opportunity here.
The Left hates Christianity. Yet they can't just come out and say that, or they risk looking anti-religious, and they've been trying to change that perception for years.
But they sure aren't going to embrace the religion they see as misogynistic and anti-choice and paternalistic (the true flaw). So they aren't really embracing Islam (which they know damn well isn't their bag, either), they're just creatively continuing their ongoing war against Christianity.
None of which they would feel safe to do without the protections this majority-Christian country gives them.
I used this phrase yesterday in a similar context, so excuse me for recycling, but it fits: The Left is like a college kid who's out there in his CHE! t-shirt, protesting capitalism...while waiting for the monthly check from mom and dad that pays his tuition, rent and munchie bill. They complain endlessly because they are comfortably aware that their complaints won't actually affect their situation--so they can appear all cool and anti-establishment, while under the protection of that establishment.
The Left doesn't love Islam, it just hates Christianity, and Catholicism in particular.

An adage suitable for the Left’s contempt of ordinary Americans: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”.
Democrats think they’re cultivating another minority group to exploit and control for political power, but as democrats bow, bend and submit to their demands in the name of tolerance and diversity, it’s radical Islam that will ultimately have the last laugh.
I think that Islamists have learned how the game is played by listening to and watching the left in action and are using their playbook. As the Marxists have taken control of one political party here, Islamists have designs of their own and will bide their time until it is they who have control over the Democratic Party.

What the two groups have in common is hatred of America.
An even worse agreement is the support athiests have for Islam. I know that because I have argued with the athiest Libertarians at 'Reason Magazine.'
Athiests are supposed to be against proving a negative and for reason and logic; however, with Islam they join hands with a death cult that rejects reason and logic -- especially as Islam compares to Judaism and Christianity; i.e., Christianity accepted St. Thomas Acquinas and Judaism embraced Maimomides (sp) (admirers of Aristotle); however, Islam rejected the Aristotelianism of the bunch, Averros.
I have suggested to Muslims over at 'Reason Magazine' that they restart an Averros school to soften their brutality, but they ignore me. Possibly because I am a descendant of apes and pigs /sarcasm

The Left wants to destroy our value system, so Judeo-Christian beliefs are at the top of their list. They may well view Islam as the “ideal” religion because Mullah’s have almost total control over their adherents. If you can convince someone to be a suicide bomber, getting them to pay higher taxes [instead] should be a piece of cake. They may think they can co-opt Islam to achieve political control—in short, they can ride the tiger to victory. But, in this case, the tiger will eat them in the end.

You got that right. If I’m a Muzzie murderer, I’m going to look for targets infested with soft-headed liberals who hate guns. What better target than a city like New York populated with mushy metrosexuals walking poodles and carrying purses. But stupid liberals will never consider that. They much rather be pure and dead than armed and alive.
As a terrorist coward, I’d know that going to a conservative state is bad news for me. The chances of getting my brains blown out from 10 different directions by concealed carry patriots is very high.
Where would I go to kill lots of Americans? Metrosexual New York or an armed patriot town in rural Virginia?

Unlikely? That’s a load of crap. Take a look at how the Arabs allied themselves with that Leftist (a national socialist) Hitler during WWII. And then how the Arabs allied themselves with the Soviet Union. If you look at Islam and Marxism closely you will find that they are two peas in a pod.
