Gates: Attack On Iran Won't Help
IsraelNationalNews ^ | November 16, 2010

Posted on 11/16/2010 10:18:49 AM PST by Fennie

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday that a military action against Iran would not halt Tehran's nuclear program, and would only make the government there more determined to forge ahead with the program. The program would be driven further underground, he said, making it even more difficult to supervise it.

He added that the sanctions imposed on Iran had the potential to divide the country's leadership, as evidence of the sanctions damage to the Iranian economy becomes ever clearer.

So far sanctions and observation of Iran has worked wonders.
Gates must Go.

It should be pointed out that, if he is correct, that a conventional military attack would not stop Iran, then the question does not necessarily become one of inaction.

And he should be very cautious, because other, unconventional means, can be even more horrific, in their own way and right.

First and foremost, there should be a public warning to Iran. One that is clear, concise and unambiguous.

Peace in the Cold War was maintained with the use of the Mutually Assured Destruction, or MAD, doctrine. And while it has gone the way, there is a very powerful interpolation of that doctrine that should make the Iranians, and by this I mean *all* Iranians, think long and hard.

Simply put, the United States should notify Iran that if it uses a nuclear weapon, or even launches a nuclear missile, in a belligerent manner, it will result in a “death penalty” for their entire nation.

Every single Iranian, all their animals and plants, will be forfeit. And even if their leaders hide deep underground, all other Iranians in Iran will die. They will be a handful of survivors in an empty land.

This will be accomplished by the United States detonating a series of airburst neutron bombs over Iran, thus bombarding every single living thing with enough enhanced neutron radiation to kill them in seconds or mere minutes.

It will not destroy their cities or their oil. But every person in Iran will be dead.

And then, whether or not their nuclear attack on another nation was successful, that other nation will be given the entirety of Iran as compensation. All their buildings, all their holy places, all their wealth, at the modest inconvenience of policing up all the dead Iranians.

Men, women, children, farm animals, domestic animals, trees and crops will all be dead. The Iranian people, the Persian people, will be no more.

And no one will cry for them. The Iranians living in other nations will become stateless, for Iran will be no more, and its lands given away. All that was Persia will only exist in museums, perhaps sold off in stores by their hated enemy that they were foolish enough to attack.

This is the idiot Bush picked after we lost in the 2006 midterms, and Obama kept him on. Gates also was in the CIA for a while. Tells me most of what I need to know about the guy.

That depends on the size and the nature of the action.

Exactly. You've summed it up perfectly.

You need to replace Gates.

To do nothing only leaves them and Pakistan on their paths of global conquest.

Guaranteed once Iran has the weapons they will use them.

There is NO mistake in this.

“The program would be driven further underground, he said, making it even more difficult to supervise it.”

Something that has been completely destroyed no longer requires supervision.

Gates is nothing but an Obama boy.....

A man of honor would resign from this position.

. . but, you see, Achmadinajad (sp.?) likely sees this as a positive thing. He thinks the Mahdi is down in a well somewhere, and just such a thing will catapult him up out of that well, and all will be great after that in his mind. - As Christ said many times, though, “fear not”.

Gates would’ve said the same thing to the Israelis before they schwacked Iraq’s Osirak nuke facility in 1981.

Is this guy (Gates) running for SecState? The hope of UN sanctions having some effect on Iran's stability has been a false one for decades. Just an opportunity to kick the proverbial can down the road.

This guy calls himself Defense Secretary?

We could OBLITERATE all nuke capability in Iran for 30 years...from the air alone...without using nukes ourselves.

Sheesh. What a 'tard.

He can read their minds, you see. The more we wait, the more hopeless the attack will be.

If Washington DC and the surrounding counties sank into the ocean tomorrow, we’d be much better off.

The Iranian régime should have been taken out in 2003. So many Western troops have been murdered by Iranian trained & armed Shia terrorist proxies, so many freedom-seeking Iranians have been murdered as well, while Gates makes this kind of insane appeasing statement.

Give me 20 Minutemen III or LGM-118A Peacekeeper ICBMS, each with a 1000KG solid tungsten warhead. The impact reealses the equivalent of .75 Kilotons of TNT into a small area. This Kinetic Energy bunker buster could take out all of Iran’s underground facilites. Add B-2s, B-1s, and tomahawks hitting these sites again as well as command and control and air defence, followed by 2 carrier wings taking out Iran’s navy, coastal batteries Iran’s military capacity would be decimated in a day. We could then go back and target Hizbollah, Basij, and Revolutionary guard facilities. We could wrek them in a few days without nukes. And given enough damage to Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, not only would Iran be crippled and without a functioning nuclear program, but it would be without the tools to supress an internal revolt.
