U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday that a military action against Iran would not halt Tehran's nuclear program, and would only make the government there more determined to forge ahead with the program. The program would be driven further underground, he said, making it even more difficult to supervise it.
He added that the sanctions imposed on Iran had the potential to divide the country's leadership, as evidence of the sanctions damage to the Iranian economy becomes ever clearer.

If Gates was in power during WWII, we would either still be fighting that war or speaking German or Japanese. He’s a fool and a coward.

It would be mighty hard for Iran to forge ahead with a nuclear program if their entire country is utterly destroyed.
Israel can do it and will do it if need be...the only chance Iran has to survive is to abandon this mad scheme.

Besides, you’ll just make it more difficult to deal with them when they come into London. After all, even though we saved the army at Dunkirk, did it stop the war?”
Gates: “ Col. Chamberlain, the Rebs have attacked us at Little Round Top four times already. We are out of ammunition. We can’t possibly repel another attack by these very determined Texans and Alabamians. We need to give up, even though we in the 20th Maine have been told to hold this position at all hazards because it is the end of the left flank of the entire Union Army here in Gettysburg. Besides it will just make the Rebs mad at us if we resist further.”
Gates: “ Gen. MacAuliffe—we are surrounded by the Germans. The weather is atrocious, and we are running out of ammunition and food. It’s too cold. If we keep resisting it will just make the Germans madder. And you want to them WHAT??”
Mr. Gates—you dishonor the men and women in uniform. Please resign today. I don’t care how far underground the nuclear program goes in Iran—we have to destroy it, because the alternative is unthinkable.

If the U.S. didn't "utterly destroy" Afghanistan (or Saudi Arabia, for that matter) after 9/11, then it sure isn't going to do any such thing to Iran.
The US won’t utterly destroy Iran. Israel will if they need to.
They won’t quietly go to the ovens ever again.
How did Gates ever get to the level he’s at? Give that girly-man a desk job and get someone in there who will take care of business.
