WASHINGTON The petite woman in regal purple edged her way behind a raucous mob of reporters awaiting the next speaker of the House, a brutal midterm election behind her and an unclear future ahead.
Attuned for four years to the comings and goings of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, few in the press klatch noticed and none followed her. The spotlight and the microphones now awaited not the California Democrat, but Ohio Republican John Boehner.
Change at the top, the populist battle cry in the 2010 midterm elections, already has taken hold around Pelosi in the final days of her history-making speakership. Dethroned by an angry electorate and defending her role leading the Democratic caucus, Pelosi gavels in the lame duck session of Congress this week in a state of political purgatory, suspended between the past and future.
She'll still be House speaker second in line to the presidency and a remnant of the Democrat-driven 2006 and 2008 elections. But she's not yet the agreed-upon leader of her party in the next Congress, burdened by the successful GOP campaign that made her the face of unpopular government programs and soaring unemployment.

My understanding of purgatory is that it is a place to go and repent before entering heaven.
Nancy hasn’t repented anything and she isn’t going to heaven, which in this case would be back to the Speakers job.
She is going to a much hotter place, the Hell of trying to lead a minority who has already had a bellyful of her bullying, and is in fact a minority because of her.

Are Pelosi and Murkowski the same person? I can’t tell them apart.

Oh, thanks for reminding me that it’s Tuesday night — time to take out the pelosi.
THE PLASTIC SURGEONS IN SAN FRANCISCO BETTER START GETTING WORRIED. THEIR GRAVY TRAIN IS FADING FAST.
THE WICKED B1TCH WON’T NEED THEM MUCH LONGER.
I pray that Nancy remains the Minority Leader. If dems are that stupid, that would be amazing luck for conservatives.
The most hated women or liberal in America being the face of Democratic Party - almost too good to be true.
I’ve never seen a phonier pair of smiles in my entire life.
lolololol....eat it, whore.
This 2010 phony, staged, ebullient smiling and rousing Capitol Hill parties in the face of unprecedented FAILURE, at such a level after 72 years, shows something sick about Democrats specifically and our twisted American society in general.
This might be an outgrowth of the bordering-on-mentally-ill "everyone is a winner" phenomenon on America's schoolgrounds.
Suck it up Dems. YOU--AND YOUR POLICIES--LOST BIG! What's there to smile about, idiots??
Pelosi insulted America every time she opened her mouth.
Democrats are crazy to elect her their leader.
