Senators and TSA Defend "Love Pats" at Airports

Transportation Safety Administration chief John Pistole and several senators from both parties defended the new, enhanced airport security screening procedures as necessary in the face of a persistent and evolving terrorist threat in a hearing Wednesday on Capitol Hill.

Pistole, calm and confident in the face of an increasing public outcry against the procedures, talked extensively about the repercussions of last year's attempted Christmas Day bombing being the impetus for the enhanced screenings before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, TSA's oversight committee.

"We know the terrorists' intent is still there," Pistole testified. "We are using technology and protocols to stay ahead of the threat and keep you safe. (Several near-misses by terrorists on airplane bombings) got through security because we were not being thorough enough in our pat-downs."

Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri said prior to Pistole's testimony that she believed TSA was in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation, because people would be hopping mad at TSA if Christmas bomber Umar Farouk Adbulmutallab had succeeded. She went on to say the new advanced imaging technology--which has caused uproar because of its leave-no-secrets imaging and potential health risks--is more of a blessing than a curse.

"I'm wildly excited that I can walk through a machine instead of getting my dose of love pats," Sen. McCaskill said.

As for Johns Hopkins University declaring the scanners safe, tell it to Dr Michael Love, who runs an X-ray lab at the department of biophysics and biophysical chemistry at the Johns Hopkins school of medicine. Love told AFP two days ago that “statistically someone is going to get skin cancer from these X-rays”.

Get rid of the problem and you won’t need the machines or the love pats. This is basically stupid. We won’t address the real problem but we will attack our own people.

The words “Claire McCaskill” and “love pats” in the same sentence are worthy of an ultra-powered, twelve megaton Barf Alert!

First of all senator, nobody wants to see you naked. And I’m sure you’d let anyone pat you down, you old bag.

Second, I doubt very seriously you’ll have to go through the machine since you’re royalty.

Third, we’re so screwed. There are too many people saying “How far do you want me to bend over? And go ahead and stick it up my butt as far as you want. And molest my children while you’re at it. I’m so afraid I’ll do anything so the government can protect me.”

I hope the pilot’s union files a lawsuit over this. Or someone files a class action suit. If this goes forward it will be the last dieing gasp of our republic.

I wonder what would happen if a bunch of people from a nudist group walked up to the checkpoint and took off all of their clothes then bent over and spread their cheeks?

TSA employees are not capable of anything more advanced than patting passengers down. It would require trained professionals to be able to profile like they do in Israel.

Does TSA do background checks? If so do they check for sexual predators?

Claire's endorsement should set no one's mind at ease.

What we have is a situation where we need a tiered system ~ scantily clad young ladies get to just waltz on through. We then work our way up with the amount of clothing allowed and people who exceed that standard don't get to fly.

Also, EVERYONE flying on a passport gets zapped.

All embassy people get zapped. All DNC employees get zapped. Anyone on an Obamista committee gets zapped. All cabinet officers get zapped twice.

TSA love pats would have stopped the underwear bomber how?

The assbergs who let him on the plane worked in the Lagos airport. In fact they may have even been co-conspirators
given his prominent family ties.

You have to let us grope you and give you cancer. Otherwise the terrorists win.
