Muzzammil S. "Mo" Hassan today asked a judge to "fire" Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard because he said he has been beaten and tortured by sheriff's deputies in the Erie County Holding Center and he believes they are planning to kill him.
A spokesman for the sheriff's department called the claim "preposterous."
Hassan, 45, who is awaiting trial on charges he murdered his wife in Orchard Park last year, told Erie County Judge Thomas P. Franczyk he was attacked and beaten by 16 jail guards -- whom he referred to as "white Nazis" -- Nov. 10 and Nov. 11. He also claimed he had been "waterboarded" in the jail.
"I don't feel safe," Hassan told the judge.
After Jeremy D. Schwartz, Hassan's current lawyer, asked the judge to order the sheriff's department to preserve the videotapes Hassan said were made of his alleged jailhouse beatings, the judge told the attorney to file a motion in that regard.
Erie County Undersheriff Mark N. Wipperman, who has overall command of all jail operations said Hassan "has been a troublesome and problematic inmate" since his February 2009 jailing.
"Mr. Hassan's diatribe today in Judge Franczyk's court is preposterous and the conduct he described in these absurd allegations will never be tolerated in the Erie County Sheriff's Office."
"Mr. Hassan has been treated fairly and humanely since the inception of his incarceration," Wipperman said.
Hassan has been jailed since he turned himself to Orchard Park police for beheading his estranged wife, Aasiya Zubair Hassan, 37, on Feb. 12, 2009, in the cable television station they founded. The homicide occurred a week after Aasiya Hassan began divorce proceedings.
Franczyk today also reserved decision on a prosecution request for the notes and memos of a channel 2 reporter who conducted a Sept. 8 jailhouse interview with Hassan. In that interview, Hassan reiterated earlier claims that he killed his wife in self-defense because he was a victim of "battered spouse syndrome."
Franczyk said the murder trial will begin Jan. 10. Prosecution psychiatric examinations of Hassan are expected to be completed next week.
The judge also ordered Schwartz to tell him on Dec. 6 whether he and Hassan have worked out a legal retainer agreement. Schwartz said he will remain on the case at least until the mental exams are done.
Franczyk said he needs to know if Hassan, who already has fired two attorneys, will have legal representation or will act as his own lawyer at trial.
“”I don’t feel safe,” Hassan told the judge. “
I’m sort of hoping ALL moosie bastards feel a bit unsafe here.
And if another 9-11 happens I gots to believe it will be so.
Big Mo the Head-chopper’s no longer so tough now that he’s surrounded by guys who can “chop” BACK! This effin’ punk is in no position to demand ANYTHING!
I bet this guy voted for BO. Bet he has it, too.
Anybody remember the old Buggs/Daffy routine about getting lost on the way to Pismo Beach?
Hey, it's like Yoder or Miller in the Amish community but with Jihad.
Criminal defense 101 - If you have no case, make outlandish claims until something sticks. Torture, harassment, you weren’t read your rights, you had an allergic reaction to medication, you’re just misunderstood...
He forgot to mention how Dick Cheney personally beat him while simultaneously machine-gunning children at the mosque next door.
Oh the inhumanity towards man.
Where’s the sympathy for the moosie bastard who felt a need to lop off his wifes head.
Isn’t that part of that sheria law b.s.?
Aasiya Z. Hassan (while head was still attached) and "hubby". Buffalo, N.Y.
So, do we take this guy’s word at face value? I’m surprised you aren’t here to offer your commentary on this, considering that it would be a chance for you to try to bash the police.
He’s saving it was Bush’s fault for the trial.
Oh, I'm sure they did beat him. Cops luv to dish out street justice and its not like we have to look far to find a huge case of police torturing suspects and detainees.
Uh huh. So we see that your hatred of police really does enter into the realm of psychotic. I think after this post, we can safely ignore anything that you have to say from this point onward.
Again... how is posting a news article cop bashing or hating?
How is it?
With you, I think what it really is... is the classic Ad Hominem, the attacking of the person instead of attacking his argument. You can't defend the volume or the seriousness of news reports of criminal conduct by your fellow brothers and sisters so you simply attack the person. It makes you feel better, makes you feel as if you can win the argument. Liberals love to resort to that tactic, they do it all the time when folks come out against Obama, they love to call them racists.
What you do is no different, just small changes in the words and parlances. But the tactic is the same...
But to everyone else you do nothing more than reenforce your lack of a factual platform to defend your position, your fellow criminal cops from.
Its far too easy for you to just say you lose I win, your psychotic because you hate cops... that works when you are talking to other cops, who like you will defend anything and everything another cops does no matter how egregious it may be.
The fact remains that I can post story after story after story after story... until the FR servers crash the mods ban me and you , your fellow cops and Jim Rob puts a bounty on my head. Stories detailing crimes committed by the cops int he country that range from such mundane offenses as DUI to Murder, Kidnapping, Dope running, Illegal Smuggling and on and on and on...
Your bias is absolutely beyond any rationality. I firmly believe it is due to some arrest that you had at some point. Instead of owning up to your own bad behavior, you want to blame everyone else.
The fact is, for every article you post, someone could post a thousand examples of police helping someone, saving a life, or putting a dangerous criminal away. There has been a systematic war on law enforcement in this country since the 1950s. That war was set into motion by liberals and communists, the very people you claim to oppose. The idea is to break down law and order and make the eventual collapse of the United States more likely.
Contrary to your delusional fantasies, the overwhelming majority of Police are good people who are doing a tough job. Moreover, many of them have served in the military prior to the service as LEOs. They do a thankless and difficult job, and that job is made far more difficult when idiot libertines run around with CONSPIWACY theories in their small minds.
I love the projection in the rest of your post. You accuse me of doing the very thing that you are doing in your response. It's absolutely hilarious.
