Lisa Murkowski: I don't blame GOP for backing Joe Miller

As her once improbable reelection bid looks increasingly likely, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said Tuesday that she doesn’t hold a grudge against Republican leaders who poured money into the campaign and legal efforts of GOP rival Joe Miller.

Miller upset Murkowski in the Republican primary, but the senator launched a long-shot write-in campaign that may hand her another six years in office. ... “The expectation is that the party nominee will get the funds from [the National Republican Senatorial Committee], their coordinating funds, and they did that,” Murkowski told reporters at the Capitol.

“I knew that by running as a write-in candidate, I would not be my party’s nominee,” she said. “I could not expect that same level of support that other party nominees would have, and that’s the simple reality of it. And the good news for me is I’m standing here today and things are looking good.”

After Miller secured the nomination, Senate Republicans’ campaign committee threw its support and resources to the tea party-backed candidate, who was also endorsed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. The campaign committee gave Miller staff and money, and placed independent expenditure ads in the state on his behalf.

It also raised money for Miller’s federal lawsuit seeking to block Alaska election officials from counting write-in ballots in which a candidate's name is not spelled correctly.

Touching that she forgives the GOP for backing their own nominee...she doesn't ask the GOP to forgive her for running against her own party's nominee and not abiding by the results of the primary she participated in.

She won’t. She’s an establishment type. McConnell will great her with open arms, and will probably give her back her position.

No more money for the NRSC until she is history.

The GOP showed their two faces when they let her keep all her committee spots.
Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, sure they backed Miller.

Exactly. Conservatives lost in the Delaware and Alaska general elections, but the GOP nomenklatura certainly won.

One day even the dullest conservatives are going to understand what the GOP is actually about. 2011 is going to be very enlightening for many good people who presently have their hearts set on ‘taking back’ the GOP. Like watching a bad marriage take place, sometimes you just have to sit back and let it work to its broken conclusion.

As far as I can tell, the GOP didn’t back Joe Miller, they backed Murkowski. They kept her committee positions - that ought to tell you something.

Mike Pence told Bret Baer today that the House gets it, when asked about the Senate he just repeated — the HOUSE — gets it.
