‘Rockin’ the Wall’ DVD Review: A Splendid Reminder that Rock and Roll Means Freedom!

by Ezra Dulis

You had to hide it somewhere that no one would find it: your very first record, tape, CD– whatever medium– that Mom and Dad didn’t approve of. You had to listen to it through headphones or when they were out of the house. You had to do this because you knew it was an act of rebellion; your parents did not want you hearing that music performed that way with those lyrics, and you decided that you wouldn’t obey them. According to the new documentary Rockin’ The Wall, that simple moment of defiance, experienced collectively by the citizens of the Soviet Union, contributed to and may have even defined the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Rock and Roll once meant "freedom".

But the industry has killed it (at least in America). We no longer export the American Dream.

Burgers, cars, and other bits of Americana are now being blamed for the "destruction of the world" via man-made global climate change.

But I look forward to seeing this documentary about rock behind the Iron Curtain, when fans had to listen to records cut with a lathe into old x-rays.

See if you can get Netflix to stock it.

I tried looking on their page but don’t see where customers can put in requests for videos anymore.

We are in negotiations with distributors. You don’t want to give away the low end first-—that’s always easy to get. We want the high end first (network, full retail, package deals) then we can always get it out low end.

Fascinating.
I simply have to see this film.
Where may I purchase it?

I have lots of stuff that was slipping out of the eastern bloc back in the late 70's and 80's

And the Punk Rock movement used to be full of freedom lovers.

And the Punk Rock movement used to be full of freedom lovers.

Leggs McNeil wrote how it was a response to politically correct hippie liberalism.

And yet it was Mo Tucker of the Velvet Underground who took a lot of flack this year for speaking out against progressive politics.

We are already at work on “Other Walls 2 Fall,” the story of music penetrating and possibly changing closed Middle Eastern societies. We have interviewed country star Clint Black, Yanni, Busta Rhymes, Christian guitarist Lincoln Brewster, Cambodian rapper praCh Ly, Rudy Sarzo, and several others.

For now, it’s available at our site, www.rockinthewall.com

Do NOT buy the educational version, as that is much more expensive. Just the plain old DVD or Blu Ray.
