On Thursday's CBS Early Show, correspondent Nancy Cordes reported on Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski declaring victory in her write-in bid for reelection and portrayed her as a victim of the GOP: "[She's] in a very unique position, not beholden to the Republican leaders who turned their backs on her when she decided to run and not beholden to the tea party, which did everything it could to defeat her."
In reality, it was Murkowski who turned her back on the Republican Party after losing the primary and continuing to run against GOP nominee Joe Miller. Cordes sympathetically declared: "This was a huge uphill battle for Lisa Murkowski, who was urged by Republican leaders not to wage this campaign after she lost her primary bid....It was a risky bid and the risk paid off."

Wow Alaksa! Nice move. McConnell needs to shut her up. just sayin
...no funding from the RNC for her!
Well, how special for Lisa.
They should consider her not part of the party because she won over the actual Republican. She should lose all her seniority and be given the very worst committee assignments now and after 2012. This woman needs to be punished. It’s not like they could ever depend on her for support, so what’s the loss in giving her the utter silent treatment. Let her caucus with the Dems if she wants. That might be all Alaska needs to finally turn the page on her next time around.
Put her ugly arse on an iceberg with a polar bear and watch the fur fly. She is an Alaskan joke and so are the idiots who wrote in her name.
I wonder if CBS felt similarly indignant when Joe Lieberman was rejected in a Democratic primary and had to run as an independent, and whether they felt the Democratic party had turned their backs on Lieberman. The fact is, Miller won the primary for the GOP. If Murkowski didn’t like that, too bad. But the GOP had every obligation and right to help Miller win this seat against all comers, including Murkowski. The disloyalty was her’s, not the GOP’s.
“Time to kick her out of the party.”
Given her actions I’d say she already left.
She was a garbage Senator before and nothing has changed.
The GOP didn’t turn their backs on her, the voters did. As I recall the GOP didn’t pull her from any of her committees.
She is such a biich.
Already the stupid media is gloating that this will hurt Palin. The fact is, Palin’s endorsement defeated Murky in the primary. No one expected that Murky would pull this crap against the wishes of her own party and her own promise of not running 3rd party or as a write-in. The bottom line is this woman is a breathing pile of filthy garbage who shouldn’t have been elected dog catcher and the stupid RINOs like Cornyn who passively sat by and did nothing to help Miller.
Liar. They helped her everyway they could to insure that a real conservative would not be elected so they can continue their defeat of America.
McConnell & Friends played a significant role in her victory. If they’d had the stones to remove all committee assignments from her after she decided to go Write-in, they would have taken a large campaign card away from her. She wouldn’t have been able to campaign on the fact that she would be able to do more for Alaska than Miller would because of her senior committee positions.
The wusses wussed out, and didn’t sack up.
Doesn’t matter. Don’t have close to a majority, anyway.
Is it too late to give Alaska back to the Russians?
Term Limits would solve so many problems.......
Joe Lieberman is still counted among the Democrat Majority in the Sendate even though he is officially an INDEPENDENT after he got kicked out by the Democrat Machine.
Talk about an entitlement mentality, she lost an election which means she was betrayed! It was hers, how dare they cheat her out of it! Why, she will show them!
He has welcomed her with open arms.
What a farce of a story
The GOP helped her steal the election, even sent some of their shyster lawyers to Alaska to help her.
From the article:
not beholden to the Republican leaders who turned their backs on her when she decided to run
No they supported her when she ran in the primaries, and she lost.
Promised she would support Miller if he won. Which was a lie
Another election stolen by the leftists.
Bye Bye Lisa! Go join the Dems. Only in the Republican Party does a Primary LOSER go on a whiny tirade. Anyone have any news if Miller is serious about going the legal route for a hand recount?
Quite the contrary, she is the face of the New GOP.
Time to kick her out of the party.
Given her actions Id say she already left.
Message to Lisa:
No one turned their backs on you, YOU LOST THE PRIMARY.
Grow up, Lisa.
Eh, Alaska is about to get what they deserve. Good luck with her listening to you for the next 6 years!
Not like she holds any power anyway with the current configuration.
When we retake the Senate in 2012 she will be out in the 'cold' (no pun intended)
You were a victim of the Alaska primary voters AND LOST!
Can someone answer me....."why does she get second chance?"
They'll kiss and make up. Watch.
I’m not saying she didn’t win, just that she didn’t win as a Republican. She might or might not caucus with the Pubbies, but the official Republican was Miller.
Well, I agree, she was elected by the Bolshies that did not vote for Commiecrat.
Kick her out. It would be better for her state if she had prepared to run against the other Bolshecrat Senator.
So what she believes is dependent on who supports her for Senate? Nice philosophical underpinning you have there, Lisa. Maybe it’s why we wanted to get rid of you in the first place.
What about all the money in her coffers which she used to fight against Miller? She should pay that back then as it was given to her “as a Republican” before she lost the nominee race. Then she turns on Republicans and uses that money to run her write-in vote.
Use her for 2 years and then dump her on her backside when we dont need her in 2012 when we take back the sneate, let her see how that feels.
Funny thing is, Alaskans probably put her back in because of the earmarks and now when they go in a ban, she’ll be next to useless to alaskans.
She needs to caucus with the Republicans. She needs to vote with the party on the key issues. If she does those things, and has a record as a Republican, she might get committee chairmanships in 2013. If she keeps this crap up, she should be kicked out immediately. The choice is hers.
Under no circumstances should she have any important position within the caucus. Commerce Committee or something like that. If she behaves badly, she will either go Democrat or create a record that is even more liberal. Either way, she won't get elected next time.
Unfortunately, the Senate GOP leadership won't see it that way. They will sympathize with her, because they are RINOs like her, not conservative. So they will welcome her with open arms, even as she spits in the people's face. They are guys we also need to get rid of.
Can’t we just keep Alaska and Murkowski to the Russians?
Considering Russkies don't like Poles, you might be onto something there.
I’m sure she will switch parties within a year or so.
A perfect example of why we eliminated nobility in this country. Seeing all these family oligarchies in various states is troubling. Bush, Biden, Kennedy, Murkowski, Rockefeller, Romney, Carnahan, whoever, these multi-generational fiefdoms should be avoided, and electing the widder is not right either, whether it is Bono or Carnahan.
They aren’t beholden to give her any special assignments or seniority either.
Exactly. And now the rest of the GOP Senators have to live with her. It is still not to late to strip her of her committee assignments if she continues being this mouthy.
The GOP, in general, is just ‘government as usual’ acting outside “We, the people’s” interests. We must threaten them with ending THEIR party by making the Tea Party a real viable political force and talk Sarah Palin into running on the Tea Party ticket. There’s no other way now.
That so many Alaskans would write in the name of a RINO makes one doubt their degree of conservatism. I also suspect a lot of Dems wrote in Murkowski's name.
Didn’t Alaskan voters reelect her?
The fact that Murkowski and McAdams combined for more than 60% of the vote does bode well for Alaska.
