My mother flew yesterday from DFW to Florida. When she was going through all the check in, they frisked her putting their hands inside her pants all the way around the top. Then they made her go through the scanner. She is nearing 70 is a cancer patient who uses oxygen at night, has the osteo issue with the back that makes her lean over a bit.

Why?

She said they were searching and scanning everyone. I thought they only searched you if you refused to go through the scanner

If the scanner turns up anything "suspicious" (like a scar) then you get the Full Molestation Patdown despite having been screened.

There are also passengers lucky enough to be selected for "extra screening" which means that you get irradiated by the scanner and THEN go through the Full Molestation Patdown despite the scanner turning up nothing.
