Bobby Etheridge to concede to GOP’s Renne Ellmers

Democratic Rep. Bobby Etheridge has conceded to Republican Renee Ellmers, handing the GOP a victory in a race few thought the party would win.

When local election officials completed their recount of votes cast in North Carolina’s 2nd District race on Friday, Ellmers led Etheridge by 1,489 votes.

“Now, the election recount has concluded, and the numbers confirm that despite the incredible support we had - and neither candidate getting to 50 percent - in the end we came up just a little too short,” Etheridge told supporters at a news conference.

With the victory, House Republicans have now picked up at least 61 seats. The GOP leads in three of the five contests that have yet to be decided.

This is a relief, though expected. Renee Ellmers’ victory is a blow against ObamaCare. Her background as a medical professional gives her credibility on health care issues.

WARNING TO TEA PARTY: If this doesn’t open your eyes about the battle ahead WITHIN the GOP, nothing will:

(Earlier this month, she released a statement on her campaign website slamming the National Republican Congressional Committee for supposedly denying her request for a donation for a recount legal team.)

Mind you, this is AFTER she won. The GOP cannot say that they didn’t support her financially because they didn’t think she could win. She already had won! All she asked for was for some financial help to make sure her election was not stolen from her by the Democrat through the recount process!
This shows that the top NRCC leadership would prefer that a Democrat wins, over a Republican tea party member! I wish FOX News, Hannity, O’Reilly, anybody would question the NRCC about this, and shine the light of day on this outrage.

To follow up on my post, this is consistent with the way some Conservatives slammed the GOP senatorial primary winners in Delaware and in Nevada. This happened AFTER the ladies had won their primaries! There was no gain to the GOP for doing so, as their chosen folks had lost, and the only obvious consequence from their carping was going to be the election of the Democrat...which happened. Based on what happened here, I can put 2 and 2 together, and see that the GOP knowingly conspired to throw the election to Harry Reed and to Coons. This is sickening.

She shouldn't be too ungrateful to the Republican apparatus. If they hadn't sent the guerrilla video team to catch this clown being himself, she would have never stood a chance. Just the fact that they unleashed such an effective tactic is also encouraging that they may be getting a clue.

I hope she will be able to hold this seat, but I doubt it.

It depends in part on redistricting. Incidentally, Republicans now have control of the redistricting process in the state.

North Carolina is being redistricted by Republicans instead of Democrats (for the first time in like a million years) between now and the next election.

We shall see.

This district voted for Bush by 8 in 2000 and 10 in 2004, but it did elect Obama by 5. If the GOP presidential candidate runs strong in NC in 2010, Ellmers should be fine. But she has to prove herself.

Great news.

Renee is a fighter and will make a good congresswoman. If she works hard, keeps her nose clean, and stays true to her campaign positions, I feel she’ll win reelection.

I think with all of Dem corruption in NC, she does have a chance of holding it.

I hope she will be able to hold this seat, but I doubt it.

Both houses of the NC legislature went Republican for the first time sine 1898, 112 years ago.

Redistricting takes place in 2011. The governor has no say in the redistricting process in NC.

Similar wins in PA, ME, MI, IN, WI, MI, NM, MT, SC, IA, NH, etc., etc., prior to a redistricting year, are what makes this the biggest electoral win by conservatives of the past century, perhaps in forever.

Everyone who is downplaying the significance of this 2010 midterm election, the huge loss this represents for the Democrats, and the huge win this was for Sarah Palin, are propagandists for either Romney or for the Democrats, or both.

Several did. The NRCC backtracked and did end up sending her financial support for the recount. She was able to raise enough money to get a legal team together. But it took some national radio talk show hosts to shame them into doing it.

She did not ingratiate herself with the national GOP when she criticized them for staging the YouTube video hit piece of Etheridge accosting the young men with the camera and microphone. While she had a point, it was one to make after the election, imho. Or, if she was bent on shaming them during the election, she was a bit naive to expect them to fall all over themselves to support her when she requested. Don't get me wrong, they should have supported her without question. But she made it a tough pill for them to swallow.

Excellent.....Glad to hear that Renee Ellmers has prevailed!

Every vote we can count on......will help to restrain Obama’s radical left agenda!

Go here to learn about other races where they are still counting:
