Mitt Romney delays run, but experts say he’s a sure bet

Former Gov. Mitt Romney, a likely GOP presidential candidate for 2012, told supporters he won’t announce his candidacy before the end of the year — but political analysts said yesterday the discussion is the strongest indicator yet that he’ll run.

“We know who is running, they’re just doing everything but coming out and saying so,” said Andy Smith, director of the Political Center at the University of New Hampshire.

Romney held a conference call with 245 of his top supporters Thursday and told them that unlike his failed 2008 run, he won’t be announcing until later in the cycle, according to a Romney campaign source.

I still dont understand how he thinks he can win. Am I going to have to skip the 2012 election as well?

Karl Rove and his RINO lackeys are clueless. Romney will NOT be the nominee.

I’m not a fan of his, but am happy he is running. We need a vigorous primary to get the best candidate. No McCains or Doles.

The only reason Romney even has a shot at getting the nomination is because the GOP still insists on having its first primaries in blue states that allow for Democrats to choose GOP candidates. Get the first contests out of Iowa and New Hampshire, and close them all to GOP members only and Romney and his ilk will not be as big a threat.

If Romney gets the nomination, my wife and I will vote third party in 2012, even if it means 0bama being re-elected. I refuse to vote for someone who supports in lockstep with every liberal policy position that comes down the pike.

Because the GOP’s principle function is to placate and control conservatives, not represent them. As an institution, it is a false front.

Mitt Romney must be seething at the current situation.

He has the political pedigree, he's had the establishment behind him for years, more money than he needs, and a record of accomplishment in the private sector that puts his all his potential rivals to shame.

And yet, and yet...he faces the real prospect of defeat by this "little lady" from Alaska who has started the race with not one of his many advantages.

If Romney is waiting, he's waiting to see if he can avoid a humiliating defeat. To lose to a veteran establishment Senator like McCain is one thing. To lose to Sarah Palin would be far worse to him.

I would make a bet that the GOP establishment will back Romney.

It will be up to us to reject him.

We must take back our Party with force at the ballot box.
Send all RINO’s packing or be ready to enjoy another 4 years under Obama.

Mitt’s got nothing else to do.

I think that Obama has made a Romney nomination more likely though. The Dem defectors will be voting in the GOP primaries this time.

Romney is only waiting to see the effects of Karl Rove's SCORCHED EARTH campaign against Sarah Palin.

A progressive is a progressive. I’m sure if there is a real Conservative candidate, Mitt can expect funding from the same shadow folks who got McCain back in the race.

Well, here’s a quandary: should we wonder if Romney’s holding his breath and is that a good or a bad thing?

I wouldn’t bet that trying to scorch Sarah Palin is all that effective. It worked against national newcomer Christine O’Donnell, but then she kind of piled on herself. Sarah is now toughened, and doesn’t add fuel to her own fire (not that she has to: all she has to do is exist to draw fire). Rove might well continue to try to undermine her, but if someone doesn’t like her, it won’t be because Karl Rove said mean things.

So if Romney is standing there with baited breath waiting for Karl Rove to knock Sarah over, he might well have to take a breath or...never have to. So, is this a good or a bad thing? One simply ponders... :P

It's almost certain. Those who insist he won't be the nominee, need to recall how many of us insisted John McCain wouldn't be the 2008 choice.

Especially bad scenario, if 0bama decides to run for re-election and the GOP primaries remain open where they were in 2008. Because if 0bama has no viable challengers, the Dem voters will cross over and vote in our primaries, and they'll vote for "Anybody But Palin."

Closing the primaries is absolutely essential. And even then, Romney's a much more obvious threat than McCain was.

I have seen this movie before.

Willard: "Do you duty. For me, as I hide, out of sight.
You will embrace these attacks on Gov. Palin and her children.
Join Rove and the others. Put her down.
Just like Election 2008. Just like Election 2010.
Create, then support, the attacks from our northern lands.
Use our bought media, and plants within the Obama and Palin teams.
Promise anything like before. ordering them opposed from our lands in the south.
Whichever way the tide runs, we will rise and only I will be left standing.
"
