Barbara Bush Should Shut-Up
Riehl World View ^ | 11/20/10 | Riehl World View

Posted on 11/20/2010 12:13:04 PM PST by American Dream 246

This annoys the hell out of me, because I'm not some rabid Palinista. Crap like this from Barbara Bush leaves one no alternative but to respond to it. What, does she have another son, or a grand kid lined up for the job of President? Reagan handed your husband his, despite some misgivings, and he blew it, Barbara.

And as much as I supported her husband and her son while they were in office, they've hardly gotten us to a great place. Guess what? If not for 9/11, GW may well have been a one-term-er, just like his father. He barely escaped losing to John freaking Kerry. In fact, he barely defeated Gore in 2000. So, just how wise is this new found Bush wisdom? I don't see much in the record to support it, short of the political calculations of some consultants concerned more with winning elections, than the nation's politics.

"I sat next to her once. Thought she was beautiful," Barbara Bush said. "And she's very happy in Alaska, and I hope she'll stay there."

Bush, along with her husband, former President George H.W. Bush, spoke to CNN's Larry King in an interview set to air Monday.

President Bush discussed the Tea Party movement, and although he said "some of the ideas make a lot of sense," he said he isn't sure how the new movement will fit into the larger political landscape.

Read my lips, the same can be said for the price of bread and broken tax pledges.

And as for Mona Charen's, Why Sarah Palin Shouldn't Run item at Townhall, congrats Mona, you finally found something to write about and make yourself relevant, again. I can't recall anything you've done in the last two years that's generated any real interest outside the usual Beltway set you write for. If Sarah Palin has a secret weapon, it's how distasteful and classless are so many of the GOP establishment types lined-up against her. If they were nearly as smart as they fancy themselves to be, they'd probably just shut-up and let the chips fall where they may.

I wonder how many of us are on this page. Can we swing an election?

But everyone: Palin's Father wasn't a president !

that's the main qualification to be a leader!

remember these are the politicians that are part of the problem as much as we liked them and elected them. it is a new day. often the old guard can’t understand as they come from the reality that created or sustained the problems the new guard is going to fix.

The more Libs & Establishment/Ruling Class Republicans speak against Sarah Palin, the more I like her.

Listen, I’m glad Bush cut taxes, and fought the War on Terror...that’s a good thing! He’s also a decent man.

However, Bush did a great deal of harm to the Conservative Cause! He started this crap by accepting the Dems premise about conservatives when he coined the term: “Compassionate Conserative!” Speak for yourself Mr. Bush!

Sorry, but I have no plan to buy this open-boarder RINO’s book!

I will never vote for another Bush!

She's old, cut her some slack. Sheesh.

OK. If the interviewer gets fired, as when Newt Gingrich's mom blurted something out, I'll agree with you.

Uuummmm, Jimma Carter is old. I guess you cut him a lot of slack because of that? I always liked Barb because what ever was in her head found it's way out of her mouth. No beating around the bush.(pun intended) But there are times when what comes out of her mouth is not a good thing. This is one of those times. Give people enough “slack” and they sometimes end up hanging themselves.

She must be watching too much CNN and is just following the mantra to defeat good changes in govt. and change America back to what it was when her hubby was VP.

Maybe they are all getting scared of what might happen to their cush life if the fed goes broke and/or severe cutbacks in their monthly checks/security occur.

Her age is not relevant -- it's the usual Bush CINO elitism that is at issue here.

"I hope she'll stay there"

Barbara Bush did not need to say anything hostile and catty about Sarah Palin -- it's not going to accomplish a thing anyway, since NO ONE looks to Barbara Bush to guide their political opinions, I trust. But why did BB have to sink to the level of the Demagogues in the media?

It's just a useful reminder of the what the Bush country club RINO elite really stands for. A decent conservative, even if not in favor of Palin for POTUS, would welcome her ideas and contributions to the national debates.

If it wasn’t for Palin and Demint leading the charge, this election would not have been historic. Who knows what the future holds for either one of them. However, the army they are building grows stronger everyday. More Tea-Partiers and less Bushies is a good thing.

And what damage did the Tea-Party do? None!. Without the Tea-Party, this election would not have been historic.

Regarding damage 3rd parties do. My advice would been not to ignore conservatives, like Bush did, and there won’t BE A CREDIBLE THIRD PARTY.

"and I hope she'll stay there [in Alaska]"

I have no doubt those are Barbara's hopes.

Jeb Bush Won't Rule Out Run For White House

What she probably doesn't realize is that conservative voters aren't in the mood (to put it mildly) to elect yet another pro-open borders globlist.

I wasn’t aware anyone cares what Barbara Bush says. She has a right to her opinion and Palin has a right to run, so telling her to shut up is what leftists do.

IMHO, there's more heat than light in this essay. Why not remove all the "ad hominum" elements, discuss on merits, and let the chips fall where they may?

Were that to happen, maybe it might be clearer to us that the Republican party has deep divisions right now. So what else is new? Which is why I STAY WORRIED, even after the putative GOP "victory" of November 2....

Republicans are ever dependable when it comes to "shooting themselves in their own foot." They are too busy arguing with each other, rather than unite and face a determined and implacable enemy....

The problem seems to be they don't know whether they are "fish or fowl" —whether "big tent" or "principled."

BTW, it seems in certain quarters of the GOP establishment, any idea of "big tent" MUST exclude the Tea Party.... Which is rather ironic, because the nonpartisan Tea Party is principled by the ideas of ordered liberty as set forth in the U.S. Constitution — ideas with which the GOP has historically associated itself, as articulated in its party platform.

So the GOP looks primed to shoot itself in the foot yet again....

I'm sure the Left Progressives out there who work overtime to undermine the American order at every opportunity are laughing up their sleeves at us constitutional conservatives.... Given the GOP's divided leadership, and lack of clarity on fundamental principles, they realize that we conservatives do not pose a very serious challenge to them, now or in the foreseeable future.
