Results from November's midterm elections have exposed a deepening political divide between cities on the coasts and the less-dense areas in the middle of the country.
The Republican Party's big gains in the House came largely from districts that were older, less diverse and less educated than the nation as a whole. Democrats kept their big majorities in the cities.
That's a contrast to the last GOP wave in 1994, when Republicans' share of the vote was consistent inside and outside metropolitan areas, according to a Washington Post analysis. That year, Republicans captured seats in a broader array of places.
The analysis, based on a review of the House vote in counties across the country in both years, has good and bad news for both parties.
The Obama coalition remained intact. Democrats remained strong in areas with the party's core of minorities and higher-educated whites. But movement of white working-class voters away from the party is a concern for Democrats, especially because of President Obama's traditional weakness with those voters.
Republicans' success with the blue-collar vote and the high enthusiasm of the tea party gives it a fired-up base headed into 2012. But in a presidential election with higher turnout, the party might have trouble winning a majority with those voters alone. It certainly can't rely on that bloc to carry the party into the future.
Democrats largely held on to their high share of the vote in the country's densest places. The party captured 54 percent in counties with populations of more than 500,000 people, compared with only 49 percent in 1994. In smaller counties, Democrats' share of the vote slid to 39 percent this year from 43 percent in 1994.

..is where the battle lines have been drawn.
They were there when Bush was running for POTUS.
Watch for the Liberal Disapora as they flee that which they have constructed, move to more Conservative areas, and desperately attempt to re-create the same 'utopia' they just fled.

Sorry aobut the double post. My mouse is dying...
I’ll save you the ink with a no prisoners style comment:
Dumb, white dead male voters rescued the GOP. Reading this trashy analysis is waste of time.
Like I said, when liberals call us white and stupid, you know they don’t get it.
I live in exactly such a place.
"Republicans do the best in areas that are typically not growing very fast and don't look like the present, or certainly the future, of the country," said Ruy Teixeira, a Democratic political strategist with the Center for American Progress."
Like my CO small town. And how bright does the future of CA, NY and MA look?
It shows how tone deaf they are. America is rejecting “elitism”. This article oozes it.
Also I wanted to hear specifically asked of 2008 Obama Voters, "As you had voted for Mr. Obama two years ago, will you be voting, if the election were held today, for him again?"
Does ANYONE know if any of the networks, polling agencies, etc. posed those questions on a major scale at the polls earlier this month? All I have heard is silence on the matter. I of course know what the votes meant, but I wonder if they did this kind of specific issue-based polling as well. It could prove to be good ammo against the denialist Dems.
The MSM is seeking to depict this November as the last hurrah of rural and small town America. You knew its us bitter-clinger, redneck bible thumper gun lovers in blue coveralls who kicked the Democrats out. We’re an endangered species.
The article helpfully points out Republicans hold only a third of the seats in Latino areas.
But its only in the last third of the article that you learn the GOP is no longer just a DEWM party. Go figure.
The aesthetic, professional, and government employee groups along with the permanent underclass. In other words, any one who is dependent on government for a living voted for the Democrats.

We have seen that happen here in Southwestern Missouri.
Retired liberals flee St Louis, Chicago and even our own queen city Springfield, Missouri to smaller towns and villages.
It doesn't long after they arrive for them to attempt to screw up some great places to live.
I was just going to bed but this caught my eye and I had to comment...
Results from the last several years elections have exposed a deepening political divide between urban areas and the rest of the country.
There, fixed it.
If you look at the county returns plotted on a U.S. map, virtually all large urban areas vote commiecrat blue, while everywhere else, the country is republican,(now Conservative) red. The blue states are only blue in the big cities. Case in point, Cleveland Ohio is a massive stain of blue, but go 20 miles outside the city proper and it is surrounded by a sea of red.
Retired liberals flee St Louis, Chicago and even our own queen city Springfield, Missouri to smaller towns and villages.<<<<
And the first thing they do is get on local governing boards and attempt to control their new neighbors!!
Hey they’re city folk and are smarter the the mere peasantry
After their grandiose projects fail miserably it is sad to see how the local taxpayers must pay for the liberal mistakes.
