Cheap Thanksgiving: Serve Roadkill Instead of Turkey

(Nov. 22) -- With turkey prices at an all-time high this year, you may want to seriously consider serving another type of meat at your Thanksgiving dinner -- roadkill -- since it's fresh, fast and free.

According to Midwest hunter Buck Peterson, author of "The Original Roadkill Cookbook" (Ten Speed Press) and other humorous outdoor parodies, the most efficient way to do Thanksgiving on the cheap is to serve your guests freshly hit and roasted roadkill instead of a traditional turkey.

"This time of year is perfect for nabbing a deer on the road. The rut is on, and bucks are only thinking about romance, so they're being much more careless about crossing busy roads to get to the does," Peterson told AOL News. "In these next three weeks, there are very high chances for fresh meat straight off the road."

The meat is pre-tenderized as well. Nothing makes a finer cutlet than 200 passes with Goodyears, Michelins and Firestones.

There is no shame in throwing a fresh deer in the back of the truck. Been there, done that.

Cheap Thanksgiving: Serve Roadkill Instead of Turkey,

Why choose just one? Smash through the gates of a turkey farm and run the stupid birds down.

if things are that bad, serve a Costco chicken or two... mashed potatoes are cheap, yams are cheap, stuffing is cheap... or you can always get one of those Armour canned hams (that look like big Spams) that were so popular in the 60s and 70s... saw them on sale at SaveMart—8 bucks for the large one...

Not to mention squirrel and pheasant. I don't care for sail cat though--too flat.

A business group of us visited Germany a number of years ago.

While dining in a restaurant on the square in Bonn, we asked for another basket of bread. Our waiter, who spoke very little English — but who was apparently accustomed to hearing THAT question from Americans — practically shouted “No more bread.” We chuckled at his rudeness.

Near the end of the meal, the waiter approached one of our party and, pointing to one of the menu selections, asked in pidgen English, “Vas ist? in English?” Without pausing, our tablemate turned to him and declared “ROADKILL.” The waiter walked away practicing aloud his new English word.

Once outside, we all burst into laughter as we visualized the next English speaking patron to order that dish being informed that it was “ROADKILL.”

Payback’s a bitch.

Sounds like a bad idea. Do you have any idea what Democrat tastes like, even when it’s still fresh?
