Tears as last Harrier jets leave Ark Royal

A formation of Harrier jump jets have made their final journey from HMS Ark Royal - the last such flight from a UK aircraft carrier for about 10 years.

The four GR9 jets marked the end of an era when they roared off the deck near North Shields, North Tyneside.

Both the Ark Royal and the Harriers are being scrapped next year under cost-saving plans.

The Harriers were heading 150 miles to RAF Cottesmore in Rutland and will be decommissioned next year.

The Ark Royal was sailing across the North Sea to Hamburg in Germany.

Flt Cdr James Blackmore, who was the last Harrier pilot to leave, said he was immensely proud.

'Emotional moment'

"It is amazing. I watched a Harrier hovering over Chatham dockyard when I was eight years old and I am now fortunate enough to be flying the Harrier today," he said.

"It's an amazing aircraft, superb to fly and just very enjoyable."

Scrapping Harriers at this time is beyond stupid. Great day for Islam , one more western nation is cutting it’s own head off.

In some ways it might be a good thing. With the demographics running the way they are England may soon be a Muslim country. At least when the caliphate takes over they won't have the Royal Navy to use against us. They are spiking their guns on a national scale.

Could it be because of this that Britain closes down its own Navy?

Somali asylum seeker family given £2m house... after complaining 5-bed London home was ‘in poor area’

10th July 2010

A family of former asylum-seekers from Somalia are living in a £2.1million luxury townhouse in one of Britain’s most exclusive addresses at a cost to taxpayers of £8,000 a month.

Abdi and Sayruq Nur and their seven children moved into their three-storey property in a fashionable area of London last month because they didn’t like the ‘poorer’ part of the city they were living in.

Mr Nur, 42, an unemployed bus conductor, and his 40-year-old wife, who has never worked, are now living in Kensington despite the fact that they are totally dependent on state benefits.

They live close to celebrities, including artist Lucian Freud, singer Damon Albarn and designer Stella McCartney, and their home is just minutes from the fashionable Kensington Place restaurant which was a favourite haunt of the late Princess Diana.

The family’s new home is believed to be one of the most expensive houses ever paid for by housing benefit, which is administered by local councils but funded by the Department for Work and Pensions.

Click on pic for past Navair pings.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
