Is Your New Neighbor a Squatter?
NBC Los Angeles ^ | 11/24/10 | JOEL GROVER and MATT GOLDBERG

In an upscale enclave in the San Fernando Valley, there's a new neighbor on the block. He drives a big Mercedes, sometimes a fancy SUV and residents say he's been living in a three-story mansion, which was empty and going into foreclosure.

His name is Dawud Walli, and neighbors say he moved into a huge empty home last July, furnishing nearly every room of the house.

"We feel unsafe. We can't sleep. We have families," say some of the residents who live nearby.

Dollars to doughnuts he’s doing the same thing in a different house.

I don’t get it. Are they afraid a GL450 will get loose one night and kill them in their beds?

I don’t understand what the problem is?

Didn’t they vote to support the rights of illegals?

If he stays there long enough, with no one trying to get him out, does he eventually get to stay, some kind of adverse possession thing?

I see that happening as the deeds in many cases have been screwed up so badly that it would be hard to prove who owns many of these repossed homes so I expect some people to try and gain pocession through squatter’s rights laws.

Sorry, California... try as I might to drum up some sympathy... just cain’t “git ‘er done.”

You elected a straight slate of hardline-leftist democrats to lead and represent your state. What would you like the rest of us to do about your plight?

Squatting is a BIG problem in Europe. There are squatters rights organizations that advocate for the rights of vagrants to occupy empty buildings.

The UK Daily Mail has been running horror stories like these of people who vacate their homes for as little as a few days (to leave on a trip) and return to find immigrants (legal or otherwise) living in them.

“Dawud Walli”....obviously a former Amishman of Dutch extraction. No wonder the neighbors are afraid to sleep! Now, if he’d had an Arab name, they’d welcome him with open arms, right? Because they’re ABOVE profiling, right?

Wow. So the liberal “everybody has a right to a home” thing only applies in other people’s neighborhoods?

Booting out the illegals would be racist. A more acceptable solution is to install TSA stations at the entrances of neighborhoods to zap or grope everyone except Bigwigs and Muslims.

Why live rent free in your house while it is being foreclosed when you can lease it out for a profit.

Pretty sure California is 10 years and a day for squatter adverse possession to become a common law claim. However I am basing that off of a History Channel documentary on gold mining hermits in California. Grain of salt, etc
