(CNSNews.com) According to a new poll, Tea Party activists and conservatives are willing to put their money where their mouths are and stop purchasing products from companies that promote President Barack Obamas agenda.
The results of the survey led the pollster to conclude that Tea Partiers could realistically lead a boycott of such companies.
The poll was commissioned by the National Center for Public Policy Research and FreedomWorks, the latter a conservative organization whose chairman, Dick Armey, is often closely associated with the Tea Party movement. The pollsters asked 800 conservatives and Tea Party supporters about their view of Johnson & Johnson and General Electric, two large conglomerates that have spent money lobbying for the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or health care reform, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the $787 billion stimulus bill.
Next, the pollsters informed respondents of the association between the companies and Obamas legislative agenda. As a result, the poll showed, the favorability of those companies plummeted among Tea Partiers and conservatives at large, with many saying they would likely boycott those businesses.
From Oct. 10 to 14, Republican polling firm Wilson Research Strategies, which conducted the poll, identified 801 people who described themselves as somewhat or very conservative and asked them about the companies.
Among them, GEs image was 51 percent favorable and 25 percent unfavorable; but then, the respondents were told about GEs support for the stimulus plan, under which they received federal dollars, and their support for a hypothetical cap and trade bill. Their numbers flipped, with just 20 percent of the people surveyed then viewing them favorably and 50 percent unfavorably.
J&J was originally viewed even more favorably, at 69-5, but after learning that the company spent money to help lobby for Obamas health care plan, the companys favorability collapsed more than 50 points to 16-49.
Worse for the two companies, 60 percent of the conservatives said they would be less likely to purchase goods from a company that actively lobbied to pass health care reform, Obamas seven hundred and eighty seven billion dollar stimulus plan, or cap and trade, as the pollster phrased it.
When the group of respondents was pared back to only those active in the Tea Party movement, the pollster found that people were already educated about the activities of those companies and disapproved in much higher numbers.
Those active in the tea party movement already disapprove of GEs liberal leanings without hearing the messages, pollster Tyler Harber wrote in a memo to Freedomworks.
GE scored just 28 percent favorability among that group and 43 percent unfavorable.
The companys association with the Obama administrations liberal agenda has also been aired widely because of perceived discord between GE and News Corporation, whose subsidiaries include NBC News and FOX News respectively. FOXs top-rated host, Bill OReilly, regularly rails against CEO Jeff Immelt on the air and notes how GE has reportedly benefited from the stimulus bill.

Hearing the messages, according to Harber, evaporates remaining favorability among conservative voters active in the Tea Party; just 13 percent approved and a whopping 67 percent held a negative view of General Electric.
However, Johnson & Johnson, which Harber says is one of the strongest brands in the nation, enjoyed a solid 60-percent favorability, as Tea Partiers seemed generally unaware of the companys association with Obamacare. Just 8 percent initially disapproved. Once respondents learn that J&J actively lobbied for the passage of cap and trade, and funded a national advertising campaign in favor of the health care reform legislation, they become very unfavorable of J&J, Harber said.
Just 8 percent still had a favorable view of the company after hearing the messages versus 61 percent unfavorable. A whopping 81 percent of Tea Partiers indicated they would be less likely to buy products from companies like these, and a solid 57 percent were much less likely to do so.
Sixty-one percent of them also said they would be very or somewhat likely to blog, tweet, post a message on Facebook, or upload a video to YouTube about NOT buying products from a company that has lobbied to pass Obamas $787 billion stimulus plan.
With those strong numbers, Harber concluded that, Tea Party activists could realistically lead a boycott of products from companies who lobbied for the stimulus plan.
There is no doubt that any company caught in the cross-hairs of voters active in the Tea Party movement would certainly feel the economic consequences of lobbying for legislation opposed by this ever-growing group of fed-up Americans, Harber said.
Big businesses are now on notice that there is a measurable business risk for actively supporting the Obama, Reid and Pelosi progressive public policy agenda," said Tom Borelli, Ph.D., director of the National Center for Public Policy Research's Free Enterprise Project.
In the past, Borelli has criticized J&J for its lobbying activity, highlighting that the company is a member of the Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufacturers of America (phRMA), a powerful lobby that paid to broadcast numerous pro-ObamaCare television ads. "The drug industry was largely responsible for passage of ObamaCare, Borelli said in an April statement. Shareholders and consumers of Johnson & Johnson products have a right to know how much of their money was contributed to the $150-million ad campaign that its trade group used to advertise Obama's plan.

Because the National Center for Public Policy Research owns J&J stock, it complained about the companys liberal positions at the annual shareholder meeting that month. J&J is also a member of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP) a lobby that includes several environmental groups and supports cap and trade legislation. GE, meanwhile, has received tens of millions of stimulus dollars and is also part of USCAP, along with environmental groups like the Natural Resources Defense Council. Matt Kibbe, president and CEO of FreedomWorks, also warned progressive CEOs about their activities in a statement on Tuesday.
For too long, big business elites have leveraged their special interest group politics to profit from the size and growth of government, he said. The poll demonstrates that the days of easy money through backroom deals are over. Tea Party activists are willing to tackle progressive CEOs just as they tackled progressive politicians.
Judging by the results of the mid-term elections, progressive CEOs should buckle up, because Tea Party activists are going to give them a very bumpy ride.
How long before the state-run media tries to make it sound like the TEA party is engaged in a criminal conspiracy in this, when the left tries it all the time, most recently with respect to Target.
The left’s attempts usually come to nothing. I wonder if the same will be said when the TEA party shows it’s influence?
People who pay taxes should not deal with Leftist companies. Like GE and GM.
Any tea party supporters driving General Motors vehicles?
Count me in.
It is a shame the right can’t harness its economic might in things like boycotts the way the left does. Naturally, the right has the disadvantage of actually having to go to work (in a real job) while the left has much more free time, but if the right could shape policy the way the left does that would be incredible. Right now the most effective weapon of the right is the ballot box; it needs to be their discretionary dollars.
Obamaism is a first-step to full-blown crony-capitalism; I don’t know if the proposed strategy is the best way to counter it, but it’s a step in the right direction, and I’m all for it.
And if the Tea Party folks do propose a boycott of GE, I hope they’ll inform us of all the products associated with GE that don’t necessarily fly the “GE” logo.
I was boycotting GE and GM long before the Tea Party became a widespread movement. The media and the Left will never get it. Free minded people are just that, we don’t require a label or a banner to ‘organize’ under in order to stick to our minds and beliefs. I voted with my wallet on these and similar companies for quite some time. Same with AARP, and others.
Probably not new ones. I know I won't buy from GM until it's out of government and union control. I bought a 2010 Mustang though.
“Any tea party supporters driving General Motors vehicles?”
We’re shopping and kinda like the Impala, but would not for a minute consider buying a Government Motors Company product; we won’t even rent one.
We have already been boycotting GE—for several years now. But IIRC, Wal-Mart supported RATcare. Boycotting it would be difficult, but I suppose doable.
Is there a published list?
You know, the next time we Tea Partiers have a big rally in Washington DC, instead of the Capitol Mall how about marching on the famous lobbyists located on K Street in DC?
We could have a conservative economy and a liberal economy.
He wants to bring down our country. Period.
Not saying Barack doesn't do the same thing, too. But there are companies that fall in line with our way of thinking, ESPECIALLY SEARS, that help our vets in so many ways I ALWAYS head to Sears first. I love what they DO and stand for when it comes to providing for our military. I would not want democrats going after these companies in retaliation.
But Soros is like a knife in heart of our flag...silently, behind the scenes ripping at its core by providing funding towards horrific goals to dismantle its very foundations.
For instance, he is trying to get Sec. of States into office across our land to help change or sway election results-I want the candidates NAMES that have sucked at his teat and I want them questioned about it.
He is also funding LIBERAL CANDIDATES for judgeships at every level of our court systems within the states, including state supreme courts-I want the names of these candidates and I want them questioned as to why they accepted money from a man with soros's goals. ( Here comes Sharia knocking at the door-with BIG TIME HELP from that old nazi sympathizer who would destroy any democratic nation because, I guess, he can.)
What a sorry old piece of junk he is...saw pic of him at a party on some big yacht with three young scantiliy dressed girls all over him...PUKE!) Fine man this coreless freak is.
I want the media to fully expose the groups this man supplies with his blood money. Like the tides foundation. The group john kerry's rich
moneybag, er, wife is so devoted to. I want her to explain her thoughts on soros and why she pals around with his dirty goals. Are they hers, as well?
I want to see bumpberstickers labeling this freak as an enemy of all of AMERICA.
I want life for him to become as bleak and devoid of spirit as he is attempting to make our precious nation.
But mostly I want a list....of every group, every person and every company that has been sucking at the teat of this monied old communist rat. We deserve to know who they are and if they AGREE with what soros is doing.
We already know uhbama was funded by this filthy communist. We have all seen the pictures of this dirty man sitting down front at uhbama's debates in the presidential campaign. It was sick to see. And even sicker to realize why soros had been gifted with such a front row seat. Pathetic. But then, everything is pretty pathetic about the uhbama regime. For sure. So actually seeing him hanging out with soros is no surprise, just so very sick.
NAMES NAMES NAMES....we need to start our own movement to bring all of them to light. Dirty people cannot STAND sunshine.
“We could have a conservative economy and a liberal economy.”
We already do; the conservatives support their economy, and subsidize liberals so they can support theirs.
I’m boycotting GE, GM, all TARP banks (I don’t even take checks drawn on them), and a long list of others. I will never buy a GM product for as long as the company survives, which I hope will not be long.
My goodness, the premise is correct!!! I just learned about J&J and now will avoid their products the best that I can.
Pfizer was also a hard lobbier for passing Obamacare. Here is a list of their products. If you are taking one, consider stopping it and changing prescriptions.
Likewise, a list of Johnson & Johnson consumer products:
Most products are replaceable with generics/store brands.
The ONLY way the agenda dries up is when we conservatives STOP funding it.
Another important question to ask is which major US
companies are the worst exporters of US manufacturing
jobs to China, the profits of which contribute greatly
to the modernization of the Chinese Military.
Oh by the way.... That’s the same military/government
that’s currently telling us to keep our Navy out of
the Yellow Sea. The Yellow Sea is also the Korean
“West Sea”, where we are sending a carrier to conduct
drills with the South Koreans.
Nice.... When the Chinese fire across the Bow of one of
our Navy ships these US manufacturers will apologize for
our transgression and open another China factory. I’m
sure they are pressuring Obama right now to not make
the Chinese mad.
These companies should compare the viewership numbers between MSNBC and FOX. That should give'em a hint. They can have "x amount" of customers...or 3-times "x amount".
lol -—it was a really nauseating visual, for sure! But, ya know (ala hitlery) sometimes one must rant and I can truly envision some of those dirtbags sucking right there, even the prez. It is that dirty.
Every time I see anything made by GE I am reminded of the glenn Beck Jingle:
“G.E... We bring ev-il to liiiife.”
I am, but I bought it used and before the bailout, does that count?
“Any tea party supporters driving General Motors vehicles?”
Yep, but it’s eleven years old. I figure it doesn’t count.
If your company buys a GM Volt fleet it will cost you customers.
