FINDLAY, Ohio (AP) -- Katherine Miller got pretty good at hiding her sexuality in high school, brushing off questions about her weekend plans and referring to her girlfriend, Kristin, as "Kris."

She figured she could pull it off at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, too.

You can’t quit while on patrol or at post. Why let her back when she’s quit before she’s even begun a military career and under false pretenses at that. Don’t set a precedent.

You know, sometimes I think what this whole society needs is a big dose of You Can't Have Everything. I mean, really, that's what it boils down to. You can't have everything. If something about you provokes the majority to register disapproval, your choices are to live with the disapproval or keep your mouth shut.

For instance, I never wanted children. I'm a female that has no interest in having and raising kids. I got a lot of flak for that, "You're not a real woman," and "you're a biological dead-end," and "you're selfish and there is something wrong with you."

I could have avoided the disapproval by lying and saying I was sterile, or it just hasn't happened for me yet, or often just keeping my big mouth shut. As it is, I opted for shooting off at the mouth and getting into arguments with people. It would have been NICE to have people simply accept that some of us don't want children... but... most people just don't understand this so I didn't get the acceptance. End of the world? No. You see, you just can't have everything.

I would say this to anyone who in some way or another doesn't fit into the mainstream. Look: if you aren't being actively persecuted, just appreciate what's good in your life and stop expecting that some day everyone will By God Learn to accept you. Why should they? There are things I don't accept about other people. We cannot all have an endless daily supply of validation, reassurance, and support. You get some things; you don't get others. That's life.

A friend of mine whose son entered the Academy from the enlisted ranks of the Army sent me a book titled "The West Point Way of Leadership".

I've read that book twice now and nowhere have I seen any evidence of "I" or "Me" or one's sexual preferences. The I's and Me's and one's sexuality are non-existant, the Academy is about Duty, Honor and Country.........Any violation of those three principles deserves expulsion with no chance of reinstatement.

The mere fact that this lesbian is attempting to get reinstated following her voluntary resignation is proof that she does not, nor ever has, embraced the code of West Point........

I might come across as an old timer, but my problem is not with her sexuality. It is with her breaking the honor code.

When you break the honor code, it is not about the lie or the theft. It is about a complete disregard for your comrades-the folks that have committed to to living under the code. It is about trust. And when you lose that, you have abdicated the right to lead.

Hey Admiral ...So making people with a potential sexual attraction to one another share quarters, and thus vastly increase the possibility of of sexual assault, sexual harassment, false accusations, not to mention letting peole keep just a little dignity, has some thing to do with integrity?

she is nothing but a sneaky Thief. We, taxpayers, paid for her first 2 years at the best Military Academy in the World. If she had waited one week later to resign, she would have had to pay us back. That is premeditated theft. She says she understands there will be "hostility toward her." ahem.... more than hostility....I would prefer to see her completely marginalized... She is a thief, a lying thief who knowingly stole from taxpayers.
