Cashell: GOP rightists are RINOs (Republican attacks conservatives for taking down Reid-loving RINO)
News-Review, Reno, Nev. ^ | 2010-11-26 | Dennis Myers

Reno Mayor Bob Cashell, a former Republican state chair and Nevada lieutenant governor, said last week that the rightists in the Nevada Senate are not representative of the party. Cashell was reacting to the way far-right senators mustered enough votes in the Senate GOP caucus to force Washoe Sen. William Raggio out as Republican floor leader after Raggio grudgingly supported Democratic U.S. Sen. Harry Reid’s reelection.

“I think it was very petty,” Cashell said. “I think it was very vindictive. These people claim to be Ronald Reagan conservatives, and they’re not. I knew Ronald Reagan. He asked me to join the Republican Party when I was a conservative Democrat, and I’m still a conservative Republican. … Ronald Reagan felt there was room for all of us in the tent to agree to disagree and not say vile things about each other. But when you come out and you’ve got people, they want to get their pound of flesh, I think it’s terrible. I think it’s very, very disturbing to the whole organization. It’s splitting the organization.”

Cashell, who switched from the Democratic to Republican Party on Aug. 12, 1983, said it was Raggio who succeeded in putting a time limit on a tax increase in the Democratic-majority Senate at the last legislature when the rightists were refusing to be involved.

“And I think that Sen. Raggio has been a very strong leader in the Republican Party all these years. If it hadn’t been for him there would’ve been no sunset on the last tax increase. Sure, he’s gone for tax increases. ‘No’ is not the answer to politics, and the RINOs are not Raggio and I. The RINOs [Republicans in name only] are the other people to the far, far right.”

It’s not the first time this campaign season that Cashell has vacillated.

He took heat from Republicans last year when he co-hosted a fundraiser for Reid. He said at the time he wasn’t endorsing the Democrat. (he lied)

If you think that is bizarre...

Cashell, interviewed Wednesday on the Nevada NewsMakers television program, is a Republican who supported Reid, D-Nev., in his bid for another term over GOP rival Sharron Angle.

“He’s done an outstanding job,” Cashell said. “Do I like everything going on in Washington, DC, no I don’t. But I didn’t like the alternative.”

With a jobless rate north of 14 percent, Nevada had the highest state unemployment in the country once again last month, according to a Labor Department report.

The Democrats in the GOP hate it when they get smacked around for trying to take over both parties and marginalize Republican voters. Socialists need a one party system.

Correct. There are three classes of RINO:

  1. Your basic Garden Variety RINO who, at least, has the sense to realize a healthy private sector is necessary to generate the taxes necessary to support the nanny state. These are people like Rudi Guilani, Bob Dole, the Bush family, the Romney family and Arnold.
  2. Your Vichy Republicans who will do what their liberal overlords assign to them, but don't go out of their way to seek opportunities to cooperate. John McCain is the best example.
  3. Your Quisling Republicans who delight in not only in stabbing conservatives in the back at the worst possible time, but also RINOs and Vichy Republicans. Colin Powell is the best example here.

Cashell is Quisling. Worse than Vichy Republicans and worse than RINOs.

Slick Willard is the very embodiment of #3. Ah-nold is between #2 and #3.

Purge them all, and don’t apologize for a single one. We are much better off with Coons over Castle. We may find ourselves wishing we didn’t have Kirk. Nothing erodes the GOP caucus like traitorous RINOs within.

Yep. I’m pretty sure Reagan endorsed and campaigned for Republican candidates.

I believe the root of the RINO problem is that all of them are selfish cowards who run like scared bunny rabbits from the Democrat “mainstream” newsrooms.

“We may find ourselves wishing we didn’t have Kirk”

Kirk and Brown may be the difference that keeps the Dream Act from passing. I would not trade either of them for a pro-amnesty Democrat. Considering they are from blue states, I’ll keep them and focus on getting conservatives elected in more friendly states.

As a so-called RINO do you really think that the Republican Party can really survive without some sort of cohesion amongst us? Purging us so-called RINOs (who by the way, Reagan was) is only going to fragment the party and turn indies away from voting Republican or not voting. Plus, do you really think that a majority of the money funding the party is coming from the Christian right? It’s actually coming from the business (large and small) leader RINOs on and also lot of non-Christian Jews like Adelson, Sembler, etc. A guy like Huckabee or Romney are the only ones who are going to be able to unite the party in the near future.
