Having not read the Washington Post story it would seem nothing more than a standard hit piece against Israel that WAPO and NYT are so famous for.

Police use profiling to narrow search for suspects.
Doctors use racial profiling to pin point genetic diseases.
Many universities use racial profiling to balance student admissions.
But airport security can not use profiling to reduce inconvenience for 95% of air travellers?
Israelis see it as acceptable. Even Israel’s leftist Supreme Court has never had a problem with profiling at Ben-Gurion.
But airport security can not use profiling to secure the safety of all air travelers?
Our society allows police to subject individuals to even abusive intrusions when such actions are deemed reasonable responses to actions. They stop a speeding car. They search persons and property with reasonable suspicion based on specific and demonstrable facts. They subdue and even kill a citizen in response to escalating levels of violence. Such responses are not a violation of civil liberties, but a precondition for securing the civil liberties of innocent citizens.
Israel uses proven probability and statistics to direct approaches this author wants condemned as profiling. Civil liberties are not violated when enhanced surveillance methods focus on human actions and characteristics denoting responses with a higher probability for terrorist actions.
I have never had a problem with profiling women in burkas or rugriders who hate America.
