Sometime in 2008, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Manning became "part of a social circle that included politically motivated computer hackers and his boyfriend, a self-described drag queen. Mainstream media has hardly covered the kid that is responsible for a lot of the Wikileaks damage. He is gay, lived in Wales for many years, hangs out with his chaps in Massachusetts. Sounds like Andrew Sullivan.

Could you imagine if the roles were reversed. If the GOP supported ending Don’t ask/Don’t tell and the democrats wanted to keep the homosexuals out.

Could you imagine the MSM ignoring this aspect of the wiki story then?

If it hurts the GOP or helps DEM issue-facts get reported by the MSM. If it hurts the Dems or helps GOP issues-facts get ignored by the MSM.

The only reason that his personal sexual preference would make any difference in this situation, IMHO, is if it was THE reason he took this action.
Then we’d have an agenda.

Court martial, execution by hanging, and a rigorous investigation of his entire chain of command.

Well as a matter of fact, I did just find this out. It has not been reported in the mainstream media at all, and I didn’t see anything here. Obviously this is a screwed up kid, but I’d like to hear a little more about his “support system” that helped guide him through the process of becoming a traitor to his country. Why would a gay kid that lived in Wales for many years all of sudden want to join the US army and request military intelligence? Isn’t this the exact reason why they do background checks, and why we would not want gays in positions of trust? Not because of gay acts, but because the mere threat of exposer is enough to blackmail someone.

This happened on Obama’s watch. His policies and political views let an unstable person into a sensitive position resulting in the most embarrassing leak in history.

To quote Der Spiegel, “Never before in history has a superpower lost control of such vast amounts of such sensitive information.”

It shows how weak we have become with the progressives in charge. No nation will trust us with their honest views again. Sad.

“Ive been isolated so long . . . i just wanted to figure out ways to survive . . . smart enough to know whats going on, but helpless to do anything . . . no-one took any notice of me,” he wrote at one point. Another time, he wrote: “im a wreck.”

In one particularly poignant message, Manning wrote: “my family is non-supportive . . . im losing my job . . . losing my career options . . . i dont have much more except for this laptop, some books, and a hell of a story.”

Manning was born in Crescent, Okla. His parents are divorced; his mother lives in Wales, his father in Oklahoma. He confided in Lamo that he was homeless in 2006 and had drifted from Tulsa to Chicago before landing at his aunt’s house in Potomac.

Manning said he had sent files to a “white haired aussie,” whom he later identified as Julian Assange, the peripatetic founder of Wikileaks.

In one message, Manning said: “i’m exhausted . . . in desperation to get somewhere in life . . . i joined the army . . . and that’s proven to be a disaster now . . . and now i’m quite possibly on the verge of being the most notorious ‘hacktivist’ or whatever you want to call it . . . its all a big mess i’ve created.”

What was going through the mind of Bradley Manning, the U.S. Army private who allegedly leaked classified documents to secrets-sharing website Wikileaks? Could it be a plan to transition from living as a man to living as a woman?

It may be that Manning was worrying about change—not just from military to civilian life, but from public life as a man, to public life as a woman. Boing Boing’s Xeni Jardin examined the chat logs between Manning and Lamo, the hacker/”journalist” who turned Manning over to the government and gave the story to Wired.com writer Kevin Poulsen, and found a series of not-particularly-veiled references to “transition” and gender:

But, assuming the speculation is well-founded, Manning’s pre-transition transgender identity does provide us with some sense of his mind state at the time. As Jardin’s source says, “all of it suggests the profile of a person who is clearly at a crossroads in life. And they’ve unfortunately taken a very troubling path.” Not to mention the gap it may fill in our knowledge of the whole situation—if, say, Manning contacted Lamo because Lamo is visibly active in the LGBT community.

What would Tony Soprano do?

Funny you should ask that. During that episode, Silvio Dante talked about how gays tend to lie more and generally be dishonest because of all the sneaking around. I started thinking about that and noticed that many of the gay people I know had problems with the truth, and tended to prey on weak people. No all of course, but they seem to have a knack for finding weaknesses in people to exploit, and often fire off lies when the truth would work better.

How in the world did this guy ever get access to classified, secret and top secret documents in the first place? A person has to go through an extensive background check before given a security clearance. And I should know, that’s part of my job to do investigations on perps like this.

Hmm? I think this kid wanted some attention no doubt. In the same way an immature Lewinsky saved the blue dress this kid probably told his gay buddies about his important job and that if he leaked this info he could cause a big stink. One think lead to another and he’s hooked up with WikiLeaks. Or! he and his buddies planned this whole thing from the begining.

This needs to be said every time wikileaks is mentioned.

We also need to keep Obama tied to the TSA fiasco.

Obama needs to be held accountable for the mess he has made in this country.

That is what I am thinking about as well.

At one time I held a TS clearance and was cleared for compartmentalized info. I am pretty familiar with how message traffic is handled, who has access and how it is protected.

In the old days, he would have been scrutinized much closer and doubtful with his background he would have been able to get the clearance necessary to get access to this material. This latest batch of data sounds more like internal traffic that would be in State Dept channels and not in Army channels.

Unless he was working embassy duty, not sure how he would have had access to that. I think from reading about the previous leaks I saw that he gained access to message traffic while stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Perhaps they are not fully staffed over there and the military has more access than when stationed in other foreign countries...

Or maybe there is another leaker from inside the State Dept, and this schmuck is a convenient fall guy since he leaked the previous stuff...

At this point it doesn't matter why he did it, or if he's straight, gay, or even veggiesexual.

To prevent it from happening again would be a good reason...

At one time morality and ethics comprised an important aspect of determining trustworthiness and security acceptability based upon some insight into the character of the individual one was considering granting clearance to.

Whether somebody is a thief, an alcoholic, a drug abuser, cheats on their spouse, beats their spouse, chooses to engage in homosexual sex to get their rocks off, etcetera... --when something is not quite right (abnormal) or 'wrong' in one aspect of thier character then all other aspects are suspect and they are a risk...

How stupid and politically correct do "we" as a society have to become regarding the security of our nation to not see that one who chooses to engage in self destruction would not himself be a security risk...

You say it does not matter. I sat BULL!@@! -it does matter!

If somebody wants to self destruct let them do it privately without bringing others down with them...

Manning is a sick puppy...

APSOLUTELY! INDEED!

A reprobate mind controls men who enjoy sex with other men, and a reprobate mind is one which can no longer think correctly about vital issues of life.

No way should they be in positions of trust.

His homosexuality is irrelevant. He didn't steal these secret materials under threat of coercion afraid someone would "out" him. He was clearly "out loud and proud" per his Facebook account.

It is worth asking how did he get in this trusted position given, well, that he could not in fact be trusted. Someone or several someones dropped the ball.

I'm not sure his having a British parent and an American parent have much relevance either except he apparently does not like his father, who I think is the American.

Reading that he was being discharged for an "adjustment disorder" when the Feds learned of this, gives me pause.

Get a clue...

Let me help you:

His homosexuality self destructive condition that predisposes him to pursuit disordered sexual activities that are at best abnormal and at worst lethal is irrelevant. He didn't steal these secret materials under threat of coercion afraid someone would "out" him. He was clearly "out loud and proud" a security risk -a train accident waiting to happen per his Facebook account and should have had his clearance revoked and been discharged much earlier than he was
