Senate GOP letter calls for blocking most bills

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Republicans intend to block action on virtually all Democratic-backed legislation unrelated to tax cuts and government spending in the current postelection session of Congress, officials said Tuesday, adding that the leadership has quietly collected signatures on a letter pledging to carry out the strategy.

If carried out, it would doom Democratic-backed attempts to end the Pentagon's practice of discharging openly gay members of the military service and give legal status to young illegal immigrants who join the military or attend college.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has made both measures a priority as Democrats attempt to enact legislation long sought by groups that supported them in the recent midterm elections.

A nuclear arms treaty with Russia that President Barack Obama wants ratified would not be affected, since any debate would take place under different rules than those that apply to legislation. Even so, its passage is not assured as Republicans are seeking concessions from the White House.

Officials who disclosed the new Republican maneuver did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss it.

"Despite what some Democrats in Congress have suggested, voters did not signal they wanted more cooperation on the Democrats' big-government policies that most Americans oppose," McConnell and incoming House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, wrote in an op-ed article published in the Washington Post.

Yeah, that piece of crap needs to be tossed, too. No concessions. No passage. Putin and his pal Hussein can shove it.

I hope that to be true but with the number of liberal Republicans in the senate I just don't believe it.

What kind of sick freak draws out these two issues as the most significant and noteworthy concerns? Never mind. The left is reprehensible.

The Dems are going suicidal. They don't care that what they're doing will ensure Obama's defeat in 2012. In fact, they're willing to destroy the career of every sitting Democrat, if that's what it takes to legislate their Glorious Utopia into being.

I couldn't care less about their careers. They could all hang themselves I wouldn't shed a tear.

It is obscene that taxpayer dollars should go to Childrens Television Workshop.

They generate many many millions of dollars with their ‘products’.

Yup, Sesame Street is a profit center for PBS, and the revenue it generates helps provide funding to their unprofitable programs.

These democrats who still control Congress in this Lame Duck session , are PURE EVIL. democrats waited until after the election , and now every day they are ramming down our throats a country destroying bill.

I'm glad Republicans are doing this. Thank you Republican McConnel.

Hopefully this will stop the Dream act which is Amnesty for illegals and their families back in the 3rd world.

I'm praying to the Creator that this Amnesty is stopped. It is much more horrible than anyone has imagined, intended to create millions of new democrat voters like those that helped democrat Reid, Boxer, etc win.

If Republicans so somehow stop Amnesty and OTHER socialist bills in this Lame duck session then an apology to Republicans is in order from you democrats who somehow blame Republicans when Democrats have overwhelming numbers.

Sesame Street is an advertisement for its Licensed products which reap in hundreds of millions a year.CTW is now called Sesame Workshop and is a "non-profit". If Sesame Workshop is a "non-profit" then so are Tyco, Mattel and Milton Bradlee.

I heard that at least one Republican will be eager to vote for the DREAM Act!

Lugar, does the name ring a bell?

Lizarrda Mukow is also doing her fair share of crappy positions and vote.

Good luck to that!

That’s what the left tries to claim.
The publicly funded portion of NPR is more like 60% when you count all the indirect taxpayer funding.

You can really catch the left with this one - if it’s only 1%, then what’s the big deal if we cut it?

You didn't even read the article.

99% of your democrats if not all will vote for the Dream act and all of these Democrat socialist bills as they all democrat senators voted for government controlled healthcare. All Republican senators voted against Government healthcare. this shows democrats are pure evil socialists one and all and that the democrat party has to be destroyed.

Who cares about a handful of Democrats who call themselves Republicans. You want us to believe all this Ocean of regulations crippling our freedom and businesses and Ocean of illegals invading are all the fault of a handful of politicians. .

IF this dream act is stopped it will be that 98% of Republican Senators voted to stop it. guess 98% is not good enough for you “purists”. Yet you don't point the finger of blame at the culprits the democrat party which includes the liberal mainstream media.

Be proud that you helped defeat the ONLY thing (the Republicans) standing in the way of democrats/socialism as these votes show. Be proud of that while you sit on a corner babbling to yourself about your “RINOS” . be proud of your service to the democrat party when your democrat master beats you as you labor all day in a government rice paddy and you get a few grains of rice per day for your service.

Get a clue. no one cares what you say

And you didn’t even give a second to consider what I really meant.

Republicans in the Senate are all posturing.

KILL THE LAME DUCK SESSION!

That’s the only guarantee to kill any Democrat bill!

And stop acting like a prophet of doom! Gosh!

“convenient...now that the food supply nationalization act has been passed...”

The Senators had promised that to their corporate owners.
