Military members who have a problem with a change in policy to allow gays to serve openly may find themselves looking for a new job, Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned Thursday.

Mullen told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that the military is based on meritocracy, "what you do, not who you are." He said if Congress changes the don't ask, don't tell policy then the U.S. military will comply.

You know, If I were a crazy conspiratorial type, I’d wonder how it might affect the behavior of our military if Obama were to ever seize emergency powers... after having purposely driven out many of those in the military who might have opposed him. Good thing that’ll never happen.

yah...the Women at Sea Program carried much the same threat. When I was onboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Air Boss called an Air Department muster, and he told us in no uncertain terms that there would be dire consequences for any kind of sexual harassment of the females who were about to join us for three weeks of CarQuals off the Vacapes OpArea.

“If one of them is heading toward a spinning prop, and you tackle her and save her life, but touch her tits when you do, you will end up in the brig.”

Unquote.

The Navy has had problems with Women at Sea, especially with Auxiliary and support vessels like tenders where many of them land for their sea duty tour, when many of them simply popped pregnant and departed the Command overseas partway through a scheduled deployment leaving the ship undermanned in more than a few shipboard divisions.

If DADT is redacted, Mullen will find himself in a very awkward position; potentially prosecuting productive sailors who will not put up with homosexuals quietly. This is just insanity, and it will not end well. Unfortunately we will find out the hard way just how destructive this BS will be when the troops start voting with their feet and leaving the service.

Thank you for posting that. The MOST frustrating thing is that the press could care less about national security as long as they keep pressing their agenda. The irony is they put their own families at risk as well. they must be breathtakingly stupid.

Mullen needs to find another line of work. He is unfit to lead.

The gov’t will have to reinstate the draft as NO straight person would voluntarily join up with a bunch of fags.

What do you think is the probability of a rash of openly homosexual Sailors or shipboard Marines “accidentally” slipping in the shower, falling down a ladder, falling overboard, etc?

Obviously Mullen never heard of the saying that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.....Can any say how ending DADT will improve combat effectivness? OIF vet.

Mullen told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that the military is based on meritocracy, "what you do, not who you are."

So, if "who you are" is a traitor, that's not a problem for him?

I am almost surprised Mullen made such an idiotic remark. However, he is obviously FOR pushing that obscene agenda that he doesn’t care.

And what you are determines what level of temptation you are exposed to in certain situations.

We have security clearances because people who ARE a certain way because of their history and evidenced by their behavior, would be tempted to do the wrong thing with highly-sensitive information if they were placed in that situation. Somebody who doesn’t make top-security clearance can still handle other levels of responsibility that wouldn’t pose a temptation for them.

To take gay guys (for instance) and put them in the same bunks and showers with other guys, where there is no incentive for them to keep their sexuality separate from their work, would be like taking a red-blooded hetero guy and putting him in the bedrooms and showers with the ladies. Might be do-able if he had to pose as a woman and could be fired if anybody even found out he was a guy, but it would never work if he was able to openly be a red-blooded guy.

It’s a temptation issue, and it’s stupid of the military to play with it. As it is right now, I doubt that military guys would have a problem with a gay guy who was minding his own business. Even if they knew he was gay, as long as his sexual life wasn’t in their face all the time they probably wouldn’t care. Live and let live. But when you have to sleep and shower in close quarters with somebody it’s a whole different situation.

They already have the next card ready.

After allowing gays to serve openly the next hissy fit will be..............

If they can defend our freedoms and die for us, they must be able to be married as well!!! Nothing like using the military to score some points!

I would not speculate about, nor encourage violence over this in any way. I remember all too well the race riots on a number of Navy ships back in the day and there is no honor in promoting what amounts to an open mutiny.

Then they have accomplished their goal haven’t they. No more wars after that. Just lay down and surrender.

Well, "miss" Mullen wouldn't have to worry about helping me "find a new job" if I was still in and they started this gay crap...I'd be gone.

What's next? Pink Fatigues?

I think things will work out just fine with an openly queer military.

They love it at work when I force others to hear/accept my particular sexual proclivities. I want to screw my bosses daughter, and this a$$hole and my wife have a problem with it...? Wonder how things would work out if I wanted to screw his boy...?

Anyone who allows others to force them to accommodate and publicly impose/sanction/accept what should remain private proclivities or perversions is not a warrior anyhow.

“In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now, people, make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can’t you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)”

Oh God!! During my 5th week of boot camp I had to work in the USO, and they had that song on the jukebox. It was played at least 30 times a day. Waterboarding couldn’t be much worse! LOL

I loved the Navy but I’ll never forget my 5th week of boot camp! lol
