By this train of thought, the only way to keep an economy going is to put everyone on unem!

Talk about stupid math.

moving money from one person to another person does not increase the total.

same here.

it’s insulting that the liars think they can get away with these lies.......

need to get the liar-in-chief out of office and maybe then, lies won’t be the expected norm.

we need a return to Truth which doesn’t change...

“So now they are treating people on unemployment as having “jobs”?”

Well,,, yeah! After all, they’re getting a paycheck! Right? So it’s a job.

Republicans need to NOT fall for this, and put forth the proposal to cut the National Endowment of the Arts and/or NPR to pay for the temporary extension (swapping permanent programs cuts to temporary increases is ALWAYS a WIN!)

I like it!!!

It's just your basic, uncut, primo Keynesianism.

Government spends the money on unemployment benefits; recipients spend the money again; the workers and businesses, who sell the goods and services to the unemployed, spend it again; and so on. By the magic of the multiplier, every dollar the government spends, produces 1.6 dollars more GDP.

It sounds wonderful; and, in theory, it is. The only problem is, it won't work in practice.

It won't work, because the root of the problem is government debt and deficits. Debts and deficits are making consumers and investors nervous. Nervous consumers don't consume; and nervous investors don't invest. Any additional government spending (e.g. for unemployment benefits); means more debt and deficit. And thus, you have the makings of a death spiral.

It’s simple. According to our brilliant liberal overseers, government programs like food stamps and unemployment “create or save” jobs because when lower-income people get gov’t money, they go out and spend it.

If they didn’t have money to spend, all the clerks at Walmart, the 7-11, and the liquor stores would lose their jobs.

The democrats also believe you can dip water out of the deep end of the pool, pour it into the shallow end of the pool, and fill up the pool.

Sort of like this:

Stop $300 a week payment to 2,000,000 people and you remove $600,000,000 from the economy. I guess that’s how they’re coming up with the number.

I guess it’s time for Obama to bring out those “shovel ready jobs” he repeatedly promised for nearly 2 years.

They are trying to paint the narrative in advance that the Republicans are going to be responsible for the future job losses if they don’t continue the unemployment benefits.

Nailed it! That is exactly what they're doing.

I say extending jobless aid will cost 8 million jobs.

True. Unemployment is ultimately paid by employeers in increased taxes. Increasing costs to employers costs jobs, pure and simple. Tax dollars do not stimulate anything other than politicians and bureaucrats. Unemployment has the additional effect of reducing the motivation of its recipients to find a job.
