LPGA to change gender requirement

ORLANDO, Fla. -LPGA players have voted to allow transgender players to compete on tour in response to a lawsuit filed by a California woman who had her sex changed five years ago.

The players voted to remove the "female at birth" requirement from the tour's constitution at a year-end meeting at the LPGA Tour Championship, commissioner Michael Whan said. He said steps will be taken in the coming weeks to make the change.

Lana Lawless, a former police officer who had the sex change operation, filed the federal lawsuit in San Francisco in October claiming the "female at birth" requirement violated California's civil rights law. The 57-year-old Lawless wanted to prevent the LPGA from conducting tournaments in the state until it changed its policy and was seeking unspecified damages.

Lawless also sued three tour sponsors and the Long Drivers of America, which followed the LPGA policy. Lawless won the annual women's long-drive golf championship in 2008 with a 254-yard drive, but was barred from competing this year after organizers adopted the LPGA's gender rules.

"I think it is a major civil rights victory," Christopher Dolan, an attorney for Lawless, told The Associated Press in a phone interview Wednesday. "We are pleased that the LPGA has voted to end this archaic and outdated policy."

Dolan cautioned that the final changes are not expected for a couple weeks. But he was optimistic the LPGA's amended policy would allow complete access for transgenders.

I like watching women play. If you know anything about golf - they CAN play. Lesbians? I suggest you check out Paula Cramer and Natalie Gulbis. They are snoking hot. The girl from Norway is pretty cute too.

This Lana LAwless would get beaten so badly by these women it would not be funny.

Somebody post a picture if Natalie Gulbis so this person can see how hot she is.

“This is a joke. At my local municirpal golf course there was a 16 year old girl who blasted a drive 285+ yards on a 280 yard par 4. This is not unusual for kids who are pretty good.”

Huh. That would only make them about 100 or 115 yards short of the top 200 PGA drives (statistically) in the last few years. The times they are a changing. Here is a compiled list of the longest drives recorded on the PGA Tour in America, tken from the lists provided on the Tour Website from 1992 onwards. No Drives from before 1998 made it on to the list, an indication of how much the technology of the sport has progressed in the last decade. Only one drive from the 90’s makes the Top 100, a 427 yard blast from Chris Smith.

This Graph is a breakdown of the numbers of drives in the Top 200 from each year. Remember, driving Stats were included from 1992 onwards, but no drive made it into the Top 200 until 1998. It would seem that 2003 was a breakthrough year in long Driving Technology, as the list is dominated by shots from 2003 onwards, only 12 on the Top 200 coming before then.

I hope some guy that bombs it 340 yards, has a short game then goes and gets a breast implant, puts on some make-up and declares himself a she.

See how that all works out. What a frick’n joke!

Think some of these real long were freak drives or with the wind at their back. Mickelson is not one of the youngest guys but he has been getting longer on his drives. He is pretty close to the longest guys who are Dustin Johnson, Quiros and Bubba. Phil can pretty copnsistently hit hos drives about 320 to as much as 340 yards.

The guys on golfwrx joke how he can hit a 3 or 4 iron about 250 yards.

The technology keeps improving where they are tuning everything with the carbon fiber shafts and the driver heads.

When pros play, the 400-yard drive is now part of the golf lexicon. And we’re not just talking long-drive competitors, although four-time world champion Jason Zuback recently launched a 425-yard bomb. We mean the guys who have to play their foul balls, too. At The International last year, Hank Kuehne played the longest hole on the PGA Tour, the 644-yard par-5 first at Castle Pines, with a 465-yard drive and a 180-yard 9-iron. During a tour de force at Kapalua in January, Ernie Els, who led the tour in driving distance with a 320-yard average through March, provided the symbolic start to a new era by wowing a prime-time East Coast audience with effortless blasts—one rolling out to 398 yards. Two weeks later in Phoenix (where, by the way, the entire field averaged better than 300 yards), Phil Mickelson drove a 403-yard par 4. Victor Schwamkrug, whose 329-yard average made him Big Dog among the 15 players who averaged more than 300 yards on the Buy.com (now Nationwide) Tour last year, says in his calm Texas drawl, “If a hole is right around 400 yards and sets up so I can go ahead and hit it, well, I’m going to get to it. I’m not the only one out here like that.”

Wow — it looks like she needs some sort of cane-like undercarriage device to keep her from tipping over when she is standing in repose!
