WASHINGTON - Congress gave the final go-ahead Tuesday to a landmark $1.2 billion settlement compensating black farmers for decades of discrimination, even as Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann and other conservatives charged that the deal is riddled with fraudulent claims.
The long-delayed package, negotiated by the Obama administration, could award some $50,000 each to thousands of African-Americans who claimed they were unjustly denied loans and assistance from the federal Agriculture Department in the 1980s and '90s. Right up until the final 256-152 vote in the House, Bachmann -- along with Iowa Republican Steve King and others -- called for an investigation of the settlement, known as Pigford II.

So now we’re paying because they were denied govt assistance???
Am I reading this correctly?
We are so proud of her in the only conservative enclave in Minnesota.
And if they had been loaned the money they claim they were denied, they would now be claiming discriminatory usury. “It’s rigged”
I’ll bet no more than 10% of Pigford claims are genuine. It’s just a big reparations scam that no one has the guts to speak out against. I notice 152 voted against it but did so quietly. They fear the race baiters.
There are Pigford type scams being cooked for Hispanic, Indian and female farmers. More billions on the line
4-19’ed in America and she is the only one seeing it....
And Still if it were paid out, the reparations people would still not be happy. Kinda like negotiation with the palestiaians/ muslims...never ending... but then again, if you listen to farrakhan, black America is muslim.... but then again, so is the president.
She is fighting a losing battle.
It seems like 20 Republicans voted for this. Michelle should have spoken to those 20 before the vote.
I for one would love her to be President or at least vice President.
It is nothing but a kickback to Obama’s supporters.
Racism is bad unless it favors blacks. It is the same old story where everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others.
I love Bachmann. She is one gutsy gal!
Has anyone investigated the Sherrods yet?
Proud of my congressman Steve King as well.
He made a great speech the other day saying there will be no reparations for slavery (what this whole pigford thing is really about)
He said, “What about reparations for the blood that was spilled to end slavery? No one is asking for that!”
Take a trip to Africa.
They have a age old black tradition there for the occasion of genocide. AND its all black on black. Still occurs in the 21st century.
Csnnoy Darrell Issa launch an investigation into this when the Pubs take over the house?
Hope this will happen.
My understanding is that there are 18,000 registered “black” farmers in the USA.
However 88,000 are part of this lawsuit. Even children under five years old are going to get money.
This is government corruption at its worse but, memory reminds us, we did this already under Clinton. We have to do the same suit twice?
Count me in also.
I know a few people who were denied jobs because of their race. When will they pass the bill to pay reparations?
When do I get my payout?
They finally got that “Obama money”.
