AES256 is a very, very secure protocol. It uses a 256bit key, not a 256 character number, i.e. the key is 2^256 long.

LOL. 8-3=5, so the key is 32 bytes long - i.e. 256/8 = 32. It has 2^256 possible values. If it were 2^256 bits long ... well, you know ...
