If her whole department was eliminated it would have a positive effect on my life.

“My father is a Federal Employee and I tell him this fact daily.”

Your father must be proud.

[ “That’s not pushing paper.” ]

Sure it is.. Its pushing green paper through the federal machine..
Processing dollars into the federal black hole..
Shredding capitalist money thru the socialist machine..

Capitalism creates money/wealth, socialism shreds it..

Each of her quotes in the article sounded utterly meaningless.

If she wants to feel targeted, she should try making over 250K a year. DH and I barely make that after 25 years in practice, 11+ years of post high school education, and 60-70 hour weeks including nights, weekends, and holidays. The media and entire administration as well as most of the country thinks we don’t deserve to keep what we make, it belongs to others. As far as pay increases, in real dollars we have had pay cuts for many years in a row.

While I feel for some federal employees, the reality is most in the private sector have had defacto wage freezes or even cuts in the past few years, while federal employees have enjoyed their automatic pay increases. The pain is finally being shared. BTW, I think this lady is pretty lucky to have a 100K/yr job. If it were up to me, I would abolish the dept of education along with many other costly and useless/counterproductive departments within the federal govt that the country is trying to tax me at ever higher rates to support. /rant off

Welcome to the club.

When my employer started talking about budget cuts, every employee immediatly became a target.

The only difference is what is happening with federal employees is being playing out in the public eye, while what is happening with private employees is being played out without any public fanfare.

Again, welcome to the club federal employees. Now you are experiencing what private employees have been experiencing for years.

Work that doesn't exist in a department that shouldn't exist.

Ask her how many students the Department of Education has educated?

It's nothing more than a clearing house for government graft that takes a healthy 37% cut off the top.

If you close down the Department of Education, who’ll teach US Navy Vet how to spell?

And I don’t really think you can put a dollar figure on that.

I'm a professional economist and, anytime I see such a statement, I smell pure unadulterated BS.

The fact of the matter is that you can put a dollar figure on anything. And in the real world, people do.

For example, I carry a minimal amount of life insurance on Mrs. Vigilanteman and a lot more on myself. It isn't because I consider myself more valuable. On the contrary, it is because I feel I could continue working and producing income at about the same level as I'm doing now were something to happen to Mrs. Vigilanteman, but she couldn't replace my income if something were to happen to me.

If these federal bureaucrats who think they are so valuable did similar analysis, they'd be worth even less. Particularly in the Department of Education.

The United States still rated in the top ten on hard sciences and math when that monstrosity was created. We've dropped every year since. Any business which produced similar results would be out of business long ago.

There’s not a single empoyee of the Department of Education that’s performing a job that benefits anybody! I hope Congress kills the DOE along with the EPA, NEA, NPR and PBS and HUD...for starters.

Here Here!
Check out this thread and the indignation over “overpaid” federal workers and the private sector “sucks.

The public is being prepped by the lamestream media to blame overpaid federal govt workers for the deficit - NOT the growth in programs that led to hiring those workers.

Of course if and when there is a popluarly-demanded purge of federal workers, obama’s new hires will remain, and the “old workers” phased out

Ingenious, is it not. A shadow army by other means.

Hey Federal Employees:

Welcome to the REAL WORLD where we in the private sector have spent our entire LIVES Being Targets in the Budget Wars for companies that must sink or swim in order to survive.

My father is a Federal Employee and I tell him this fact daily.

WELCOME TO TE REAL WORLD? YGBSM. I hope you paid your own way through college and expect no inheritance. You sound like an angry brat. Your father made his career choices out of an obligation to marry, have kids (you) and to support his family. If you can't be grateful that he's going to work every day and won't be living on social security in poverty in your spare bedroom someday, at least shut up.

By the way, I realize plenty of my fellow FReepers will disagree — but I’m heartened by how many FReepers feel the same way I do.

Exactly zero FReepers feel the way you do.

You are about one micron away from being a troll.

Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.
