To which my college-aged daughter let slip is only the radio remix. The iTunes version is "you da f---'ing best ..."

I haven't watched an awards show in a couple of decades. I literally cannot remember the last time I bought a CD from these thugs. When they are gone, they won't be missed.

I neither watch nor care about the Grammys anymore so I really don’t care who gets them.

These artists like to tell themselves that they are being rebels and that when middle America hears these words, we burst into fits of outrage. However, in terms of this being a statement about society, I think its more a statement of how banal popular culture has become. I’ve never minded swearing, sexual inuendo and other crude talk in music and literature but its very difficult to use appropriately. Almost all “artists” these days simply use it for sensational value, which is banal. Then they confuse the criticism of it with unreasonable Puritanical suppression of their “freedom of expression”.

How deep is the decay in the music industry?

Well if they consider "rap" to be music, then is is long since dead.

A crow cawing or a bum beating on a dumpster is more musical than rap.
