Brooklyn Website Owner Allegedly Threatened Hundreds of Frightened Customers

A Brooklyn, N.Y., website owner was ordered to be held without bail for threatening hundreds of customers who complained about not getting their luxury eyeglasses but instead wound up with counterfeits or inferior goods, according to a report from the Associated Press.

Vitaly Borker told the dissatisfied customers to put their complaints online, with authorities explaining he figured it would “boost his Internet ranking and drive more customers his way,” according to the AP. His site was identified as DecorMyEyes.com.

According to the AP, Assistant U.S. Attorney E. Danya Perry said Borker was “the messenger for absolutely unspeakable and bone-chilling" threats. Many customers were actually in fear for their lives, the prosecutor said.

In addition, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said when customers complained, Borker "tried to intimidate them with obscenity and threats of serious violence," according to the AP.

Perry said Borker even threatened the life of a nine-month-pregnant woman and her child, the AP said.

He would often use obscenities, intimidated the customers, threatened them with violence, and warned them he knew where they lived, the AP reported.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael H. Dolinger said that "someone who would engage in this pattern of behavior is potentially a very explosive person," the AP reported.

The AP also reported that prosecutors knew of over 200 complaints filed against him with the Federal Trade Commission.

The AP said Borker is charged with cyberstalking, making interstate threats, mail fraud and wire fraud. If convicted, he could face up to 50 years in prison. Other charges are possible after a search of Borker’s home which turned up alleged images and videos of young children, as well as five handguns, according to the AP.

He operated the website since at least 2007.

Since making threats and bullying people who do business with you is a crime will the US Attorney be going after the IRS next?

IRS is not “doing business with you” — it’s “giving you the business”.

LOL!

On resellerratings.com, his lifetime rating is 1.36 out of 10.

Guess he needs to work on his customer skills a little.

That is a very relevant fact to a judge deciding whether or not to release someone on bail if they are charged with making threats of violence.

His goal was to bump his search position to number one. He did this by taking a small number of customers and pissing them off. They generated a lot of Internet hits which causes the search engine to rise his rank. It worked and he was the number one choice if you did a search.
