2 guilty, 2 not guilty of aiding Maurice Clemmons (Lakewood WA Police murders)
The News Tribune (Washington State) ^ | December 7, 2010 | Adam Lynn

A Pierce County jury Monday acquitted Rickey Hinton of helping his half brother Maurice Clemmons escape capture after Clemmons gunned down four Lakewood police officers last year.

The jury also found an associate of Clemmons, Douglas Davis, not guilty of helping the killer in the hours after the massacre at a Parkland coffee shop.

Jurors convicted Davis, 23, of illegally possessing a gun and possessing a stolen firearm in the case. They also found 21-year-old Eddie Davis, no relation to Douglas Davis, and Letrecia Nelson, 53, guilty of rendering criminal assistance for helping Clemmons. Eddie Davis and Nelson also were convicted of weapons violations.

The jury found their crimes worse than normal, which qualifies them for sentences outside the standard range.

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said his office would seek the maximum sentences allowed at a Jan. 14 hearing.

Douglas Davis and Eddie Davis, Clemmons’ cousin, both face up to 20 years. Nelson, Clemmons’ aunt, faces up to 15 years.

Hinton, who has been jailed since his arrest just more than a year ago, was released Monday about 7:45 p.m.

ummm... it appears at this point that Huckabee can continue doing his TV show.

A few related FR threads which may be of interest:

Despite Clemmons' record, Huckabee showed mercy (Huckabee bombshell)

UPDATE Gov. Huckabee failed to factor cop killer Clemmons' prison violence

Huckabee again defends (Cop Killer) Clemmons pardon. Would do it again.

The jury found their crimes worse than normal, which qualifies them for sentences outside the standard range.

So what exactly is that? Why would the random murder of 4 cops differ from the random murder of 4 non-cops?

Or is this a case of apartheid punishment? Maybe a want to punish those further because they cannot exact further punishment on the killer? Since he's dead...

Seems to me if this was a crime where 4 Average Joes were murdered, I doubt they would find It "special", this type of "punishment" only seems to be handed out when state agents/actors or the victims.

The article does not say what made the crimes worse than normal, you are only assuming that it is because the victims were cops.

Perhaps it was because there were four murders?

"Why would the random murder of 4 cops differ from the random murder of 4 non-cops?."

It's because use of a firearm was involved in the commission of their crimes making their abetting more serious. Nothing to do with race as you insinuate, nothing to do with LEO vs citizen. Recall the prosecution of the two BP agents and what prosecutors said warranted their punishment to be more harsh? It was the firearm.

Huckabee gets a TV Show and a Strange Idea that he is a viable candidate for 2012.

“For his part, Huckabee said he “would make the exact same decision” today, if presented with the same information. “

You’re right. Murder is murder and all murders are very serious crimes. This one seems particularly heinous, however. Clemmons set out to kill cops. He didn’t pick out particular cops....any one would do. So he goes to the coffee shop where he KNOWS cops go to and just slaughters them. It’s a cold reminder to every officer out there that their lives can be cut down in a second.

It takes a special person to hold a job where he or she puts his or her life on the line every day. We must respect them and support them any way we can. We’d be in a world of hurt without them.

So what exactly is that?We won't really know until the next time somebody helps a murderer that finished the job with contact shots to the eye sockets of victims that were already down.

Until then I think you and Al Sharpton will be the only ones crying for leniency for this group of model citizens.
