Granny's $100 ticket - for throwing out newspaper

What a bunch of garbage!

An elderly Manhattan woman living on Social Security was slapped with a $100 ticket -- just for throwing away a newspaper in a city trash can.

Delia Gluckin, 80, tossed the paper in a bin right outside her Inwood apartment building Sunday morning, only to be ambushed by an overzealous Department of Sanitation agent wielding a citation book.

"I was walking to take the subway downtown and dropped it in a trash can, and this lady in a blue uniform ran up to me," Gluckin told The Post.

"I thought she was going to ask for directions. She said, 'You just dropped garbage in there,' " according to Gluckin.

"I said, 'I didn't, it was just a newspaper,' and I offered to take it out," said Gluckin, who had tossed her Sunday Post out.

Sanit cop Kathy Castro wrote Gluckin the summons for putting "improper refuse" in a city litter basket.

That will teach her not to read a newspaper. Stop killing trees and let them die off already.

Sounds like something from the UK these days.

She should refuse to pay the fine and demand a jail sentence. Then make sure every TV station in town knows about it.

This is what Rinorat Bloomberg has done to the city.

Good! Finally a "resident" is fined for improperly throwing out recyclables. HOORAY!

Usually it is the landlord that is hit with these fines practically daily because their tenants refuse to abide by the glorious NYC laws. Yes, landlords have to sift through their tenant's garbage to make sure there are no recyclables mixed in with regular garbage. Stupid tenants.

Recycling is a catechism of the new secular religion of the Earth. I don’t do it in my personal life, but understand it in a business setting.

Here in MPLS people Freaked the F out when they learned that the local garbage hauler recycled stuff based on market conditions. When they made money, they recycled. If they were going to lose money, they sent it to the landfill. They went F’ing bonkers.

It’s a new religion. If you want to recycle feel free. Me, not so much.

Nature has recycled the entire surface of the earth MANY times and will continue to do so.

Those "GREEN POLICE" ads now look like reality tv.

Imagine if it had been a plastic bottle ! ! ! OMG!

This happened in America?!?

“I'd say I'm throwing garbage in the GARBAGE can!” in Adam Sandler’s voice.

No more Green Police, no more UN.

Can't the government focus on actual problems?
Is there no crime in NYC?

Turn the phony sanitation cops into real cops or meter readers instead of fining little old ladies.

Sheesh!

You gotta be kidding me. What would be the fine if she dropped it on the ground?

She should countersue for entrapment ... a convenient receptacle enticing a good citizen to dispose of trash with an agent lurking ready to pounce.

I hope she can get a jury trial.

LOL funny!

But strange that Audi is mocking the very reason they built a green car.

Hindsight is 20-20... but in hindsight, she should have claimed to be an illegal alien. I doubt the Dept of Sanitation would have had arrest powers to get to the bottom of the identity mater.

Most newspapers are Leftist propaganda anyway.
She should cancel her subscription.

I imagine such an act would carry the Death Penalty in California.

She should’ve claimed to have no ID and said that she was Juan Garcia (which I assume is equivalent to “John Smith”).

They probably would've put her up in a nice hotel for a couple weeks.

She should have just dropped it on the ground. That would have made it litter and she could have picked it up again and disposed of it legally! Sheesh
