Arrest In Bombing Plot In County [Muhammed Hussain]

Authorities say a person has been arrested in the Baltimore area for plotting to blow up a military recruitment center.

Marcia Murphy, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in Baltimore, tells The Associated Press the person will appear in court Wednesday afternoon. An FBI spokesman also confirmed the arrest. They did not provide any more details.

An official who was briefed on the arrest told AP on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information that the person was given a phony bomb and was arrested after trying to detonate it.

The official says the person's goal was to blow up a military recruitment center.

The official says the person is a U.S. citizen and the plot was carried out in Baltimore County.

ABC News reported the suspect's name is Antonio Martinez, who called himself Muhammed Hussain.

WBAL News has learned the suspect's arrest was involved in a plot similar to a thwarted bombing plot at a Christmas tree lighting in Portland,Oregon late last month.

Actually, AOL news doesn’t report the would-be bomber’s name but the reporter was compelled to remind us that Cantonsville, MD made headlines in 1968 for 9 CATHOLIC ACTIVISTS,including the Brothers Berrigan, who broke into the military recruitment office and burned draft files to protest the Vietnam War. UNBELIEVABLE.

The Methodists aren't out setting off bombs, but they certainly are sympathetic to those who do.

It appears that the FBI learned isomething from the first world trade center bombing, and they are no longer providing terrorists with real bombs.  I guess it took having them admit they provided the bomb material in open court finally beat it into their head that it is not really a good idea.

Antonio Martinez, also known as Muhammad Hussein, has been charged with the attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and the attempted murder of federal officials.

Federal prosecutors say Martinez, a U.S. citizen, tried to use a car bomb to blow up an Armed Forces recruitment center in Cantonsville, Md.

Authorities say there is no evidence to suggest that the suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was involved in the recent shootings at military recruitment centers in the Washington, D.C. area.

Cantonsville made headlines in 1968 as well, when nine Catholic activists broke into a military center in the city and burned draft files to protest the Vietnam War. The ‘Cantonsville Nine,’ as the activists were known, included two Catholic priests — brothers Daniel and Philip Berrigan.
