I did not say that he did not shoot her. That may be.
What I said, if you will read it again, is that it was not a robbery.
A guy hungry or in bad need of a fix is going to find an easy mark.
Some elderly couple in the shopping mall parking lot, some one walking down the street, in the dark parking lot behind a bar, etc.
A woman in an automobile is not an easy mark.
Think like you are on that bike, hungry, in need of money quick...would that be your mark? Or would you pick a push over.
If he shot her, it was not for robbery.
If Smith is the shooter, then yes it's likely this was an attempted robbery...Happens all the time.
You need to understand, Smith was a two-strike felon with a criminal history that dates back at least 26 years. He had been convicted twice of burglary and most recently had been released from prison in 2007 after serving time for **robbery**.
A woman in an automobile is not an easy mark.

As I said, robberies happen all the time...Robberies occur on foot, on buses, during car jacking, and yes robberies have occurred when the suspects use bicycles.
This guy was basically broke and didn't own a car...lol

There is no way that I can see that the investigators could say that he acted alone and was not hired to do a hit.
I hope there is not a bungling cover up here such as in the Anna Nicole Smith ad her son's deaths.
Bicycle riding bank robbers get away with cash
JEFFERSON COUNTY - A search is under way for two suspects who used a gun to rob a bank.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says the robbery happened at the 1st Bank off Chatfield Avenue near Wadsworth Boulevard around 11:30 Thursday morning.
The suspects arrived on bicycles and got away with an unknown amount of money.

That makes perfect sense.

Robbing a bank is easy. You don’t even need a gun. Just give the teller a note and you get bags of money.
The hard part is not getting caught, but that is not my point.
Truly desperate people who need money right now pick an easy mark.
Banks give you money without shooting.
A robber knows that banks have money and lots of it.
Ladies driving down the street do not fit that description.
In fact, many keep no cash and use credit cards 100%.
If robbery was not the motive and he was not hired, then the most likely scenario is that she might not have seen him in the dark and came too close to him by his standards and he shot her in a tantrum.
But then the question would be: How far was he from his quarters and why was he riding in that area at that hour? If he used the bike as his only means of transportation, he was not riding for exercise.
There are questions that need to be answered.
It was not robbery. So what was it?

A would-be holdup man sent packing by a screaming grocery store clerk was also identified as the suspect in other recent robberies after police caught him late Monday.
Salt Lake City police Detective Dennis McGowan said the 42-year-old man approached a cashier’s counter at Smith’s Marketplace, 455 S. and 500 East, about 3:20 p.m. With one hand held menacingly in his jacket pocket, the man allegedly handed the clerk a note threatening to shoot if she did not hand over cash.
Instead, the clerk screamed, startling the man into flight. Witnesses saw him pedal away on a red bicycle outside the store. Soon after, officers found the suspect at a nearby residence, matched him to a security video from the store and arrested him.
Subsequent questioning of the man linked him to recent robberies of Blockbuster video and Baskin-Robbins ice cream stores in the east-central Salt Lake City area, police said.
The man remained in Salt Lake County Jail on Tuesday pending charges.

A man will face court today accused of four armed robberies on the New South Wales south coast.
They say the man used a knife to rob three service stations and a delicatessen this week.
He’s been refused bail and is expect to appear at Wollongong Local Court.

Robberies on bikes is not the question.
The question is: Robberies of motorists by robbers on bikes.
Or to be more specific, robbers on bikes who empty their guns on motorists before they even know that the motorist has any money on them.
It was not an attempted robbery. It was either a hit hor a temper tantrum because he thought she passed too close to him.
But remember that the cops said early on that it was not road rage.
Memphis bicycling robber gets ride to jail
A 31-year-old man riding a bicycle on Jackson Avenue near Memphis National Cemetery early Sunday rode beside a woman and lifted her cell phone from her pocket, according to a court affidavit.
The balancing act near Orchi about 1:20 a.m. earned the man a ride to Shelby County Jail.

In every case you mention so far, the mark was obviously the likely place to go for cash.
The intended victims were all stationary rather than on their own high speed set of wheels.

Dec 06, 2010 AKRON: Police are investigating a robbery Saturday night on Grant Street.
The owner of a vehicle that was being broken into confronted the robber, who then threatened to shoot the owner, police said. The robber ran off, leaving his bicycle behind.
Items taken from the vehicle, including a camera and electronics, later were recovered. Police didn't apprehend the robber and are still investigating. http://www.ohio.com/news/111371884.html
