Julian Assange May Have The Files For Every Single Prisoner In Guantanamo
Reuters Via The Business Insider ^ | 12/08/2010 | Reuters

It's known that Julian Assange, the Wikileaks chief, has Guantanamo files, however this sounds fairly explosive.

Reuters (via The Nation):

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, jailed in Britain this week, has told media contacts he has a large cache of U.S. government reports about inmates at the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, known as GITMO, the last of four major tranches of U.S. government documents which WikiLeaks had acquired and at some point would make public. "He's got the personal files of every prisoner in GITMO," said one person who was in contact with Assange earlier this year.

This doesn’t qualify as breaking news, yet the Sarah Palin Ted Nugent Live Podcast does?

Wonder if he got them not from the light in the loafers pfc guy but instead from a former Gitmo muslim "chaplain" named Yee:

SEPTEMBER 2003 : (GITMO'S MUSLIM U.S. ARMY CHAPLIAN YEE {See SOUTH CAROLINA/SC CELL SYRIAN SHAIKH AHMAD KUFTARO} & TRANSLATOR AHMAD AL HALABI ARE ARRESTED----- See GITMO, ESPIONAGE, SYRIA) The arrest of [Ahmad] Al Halabi, who is an Air Force translator who worked in Guantanamo, was simultaneous to the arrest of the Chinese-American officer James Yee (Joseph) who worked as a preacher in Guantanamo, and who is accused of spying as well, knowing that the latter studied religion in Damascus and married a Syrian woman. The U.S. authorities started investigating the preacher's relation with networks of extremists inside U.S. The Washington Post reported Pentagon officials as saying that Captain Yee resorted to Al Halabi's services for translation, even though he is fluent in Arabic. The authorities found on him 'secret' documents at the time of his arrest.
The New York Times mentioned that Al Halabi (24 years) is facing more than 30 accusations, including that of attempting to leak the prison's schematics, in addition to prisoner's names and messages from them. He was arrested on July 23, but the authorities only mentioned something about it after CNN found out about it two days ago. The severest accusation is that of trying to "pass on secret information to the Syrian government," including two hand-written letters from prisoners in addition to a laptop containing 180 e-mails from prisoners "some of which were sent to addresses in Syria," according to Pentagon officials.

These leakers really need to be rounded up, stood against a wall, and shot.

“Evidently, what’s worrisome to government officials is evidence that GITMO prisoners have been released, despite clear evidence of their posing an ongoing threat.”

Ah. That would be worrisome, wouldn’t it? Of course, the old media will do it’s best to ignore these data.

That would be the 150 or so who have been proven to
engage in terrorism after their release...

That’s an interesting thought

I’m like you, watching the articles regarding WikiLeaks and Manning online. If he (or anyone connected to them) are found guilty of treason/espionage/terrorism I do hope he/they get the death penalty.

It's interesting the story on Wikileaks spilling docs on Gitmo came to Reuters via The Nation:

VIPS is a Counterpunch front group of alleged former CIA/intelligence "professionals" who advocate the leaking of classified material; Counterpunch is a newsletter and website run by Alexander Cockburn, a writer for the radical leftwing rag "The Nation." Cockburn is associated with the 2006 Foleygate "October Surprise" and an earlier false smear of a S Dakota Republican, Senator Pressler, which Cockburn had to retract; see Cockburn associate James Abourezk----- piasa

It gets curioser...

Apparently Alexander Cockburn's lefty rag "Counterpunch," on September 14 2010, came up with a new spin / story to downplay Assange's problems : one of Assange's accusers had connections to Cuban exiles, according to counterpunch. In other words the claim is the CIA is behind the persecution of their boy.

VIPS being a front of Counterpunch ... and VIPS members being part of Ellsberg's "Truth-Telling Project" to encourage government employees and soldiers at all levels to leak classified information just makes me go "hmmm" when it is suggested Mr. Manning is just a "lone" leaker. Seems there is a lot of aiding and abetting going on.

...and more curioser:

Cockburn, though a lefty, is no fan of the Carbon Credits scheme. It’s no surprise the like minded wikileaks targetted the Copenhagen climate summit.

“Lone” leakers, like “lone” jihadis are often not as alone or lonely as the media portrays them to be.
