Alien planet discovered, but it shouldn't exist
MSNBC ^ | 12/08/2010 | Charles Q. Choi

An alien star has now been discovered to have an extra planet that astronomers so far cannot explain.

A fourth planet has been imaged orbiting the bright, very young star HR 8799, nearly 130 light-years away. This newfound world is at least seven times the mass of Jupiter, roughly the same as a trio of other giant planets astronomers had seen circling the star two years ago in the first direct images of extrasolar planets.

I have a feeling there is no such thing as “normal” when it comes to exoplanets. Here’s an interesting story about a planet that appears to be carbon rich. (Our solar system is actually carbon poor in comparison)

There’s a lot that they can’t explain. It’s arrogant to say “shouldn’t exist.” If it exists, it doesn’t need a bunch of night owl astronomers to say it exists.

The moonbats are apoplectic now about carbon. Can you imagine if
the ratio was higher?

In fact, I'm surprised NASA hasn't been tasked with finding a way to
eliminate the lakes of methane on Titan.

If it were a Dyson sphere, we wouldn’t see the star.

"I think it’s just amazing what we REALLY DON’T KNOW."

So very true! We are finding planets everywhere! At 130 light years away, that thing is 'across the street' from us, from a galactic point of view.

There is SO MUCH out there that will never be known during our lifetimes. The human race will probably cease to exist before we even have time to scratch the surface of what's out there.....

Spitzer had liquid coolant. They should’ve just let the cold of space in. After all, it’s only 4 Kelvin.

so 130 years ago it was a planet...perhaps by now the mass has ignited the nuclear furnace and it is a small star?

perhaps?

If only it was that easy. It is hard to keep things really cold in an 93 million mile Heliocentric orbit.

One thing that always needs to be accounted for is the big ball of hot gas at the center of our solar system. That, and the energy dissipated by the telescope's electronics.

Kolob?

I dunno - can you hie there in the twinkling of an eye?

Besides, we know know that the Reformed Egyptian was mistranslated: according to the continuing revelation of Battlestar Galactica, it's really pronounced "COBOL."
