BASRA, Iraq When the wounded warriors with Operation Proper Exit visited Basra, Iraq, Dec. 7, they received a warm welcome from soldiers on the base, from the ranks of private through major general.
Another group, perhaps more unexpectedly, also welcomed them Iraqi military leaders and civilians.
Iraqi Air Force Brig. Gen. Sami Al Tamimy, the commander of the IAFs 70th Squadron, hosted the group for lunch and spoke with the group of Americans who had been wounded in Iraq years before.
I would like to thank you for all the sacrifices that youve made to accomplish our wishes to build a safe and secure and democratic Iraq, Tamimy told the Americans. We promise you, we are going to work as hard as you did to accomplish these wishes, and we hope to God that he blesses you and blesses us all.
Iraqis traditionally honor their own war wounded on the Day of the Wounded Soldier, with gifts, and with a lifetime salary for the disabled.
One Basrawi, who wished to remain anonymous, met the troops and said he felt indebted to the American visitors with Proper Exit.
We in Iraq are so thankful for the U.S. soldiers who helped us get rid of Saddams regime after living under his dictatorship for decades, he said. I think American wounded soldiers cannot be honored enough because what they have done for our country is priceless; they gave us the freedom we, the Iraqis, were dreaming of.

I’m impressed!
And you probably wouldn’t have heard about it
Under Bush the US were the bad guys according to the left. I still doubt the MSM will pick up on this.
As they should

Very nice. I think the average Iraqi will always remember the Americans who gave them a chance at freedom. I only hope they can hang onto it. It is precious beyond words.
Another story you won’t see in the mainstream. Can hardly wait to use this as a sign at our Friday night rally for the troops in Studio City, CA. Wonder how the Lefties across the street will react.
pong

Our blood for your freedom. It was a noble cause, make it count. Long live Free Iraq!
It’s good to know there are Iraqis that appreciate our sacrifice for their chance at freedom, may they hold on to it!
Thanks much for the ping, Justa, I hadn’t seen this. :-)
The greatest honor that the Iraqis could bestow on the American troops is to prove with time that it was all worth it. May they prosper and hold dearly on to their freedom.
Here is a video clip I was pinged to that compliments this article beginning at -1:50. Eventually the truth will win out.
Miss you guys...
There are a couple I just can't resist pinging.
Sorry, y'all.

As a Blue Star Mom for 26 yrs. of a wounded soldier who fought for Iraqi Freedom, this was awesome to hear this note of honor and praise for our wounded heroes by the Iraqis. I hope and pray that they can keep their country free. Thanks to the poster for this article.
