Wednesday the Westboro Baptist Church announced plans to protest the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards. Edwards, the estranged wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards, died Tuesday after a six-year battle with cancer.

The Westboro Baptist Church sent out a press release condemning Edwards and her family, and announcing the group's plan to protest her funeral at the Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina.

There are some people with no decency.

Can’t they let the dead rest in peace?

Based on a FR request from a week or so ago, I’ve restrained myself from giving an opinion on her. After her funeral, maybe I’ll speak up a bit.

I’ve seen this pathetic group protest at a soldier’s funeral, and they disgust me beyond words. They are clearly not Christian, and they give the impression of being one of the sickest, most inbred families I’ve seen. Worse, it looks to me like their protests are a carnival to them. Give a strange enough freak show, and someone will applaud. I think these protests are a money generator to them, where those people whose lives are centered around hating gays instead of around loving God send money to fund the WBB “Church’s” work.

Fred Phelps, Jr. served as a Gore delegate on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta in 1988 and Gore invited him to both the 1993 and 1997 presidential inaugurations. I don't know if they have any relationship now but they used to be good buds.

She was an advocate for both ‘gay rights’ and abortion. That, and the fact that the media will be there en masse is enough to get these cretins out of their hole.

Liberal judges say you’re entitled to violate a funeral because some nut should be allowed to make a nuisance of himself.

There you have it.

I certainly don't agree with the protest.
With that said, if they are allowed to protest our soldiers then I guess they can protest her.
I personally think funerals should be left alone. Especially Military & Police funerals where the deceased member died while on duty, protecting our freedoms.

In its paragraphs long press info on the Edwards' funeral protest, WBC includes this:

"This witch spent her life in defiance and disobedience to God, and blasphemed Him with her dying breath. She received multiple warnings and opportunties to repent. After God smacked her by killing her son, she thought she'd show Him, pumping herself full of hormones to have more kids. God gave her two more children, and she despised them like she did the first two, raising them to believe God is a liar."

It's a change of pace for them not to mention gays.

The Supreme Court ruling on this case (expected in the spring) can’t come soon enough. In my opinion, the outdoor area of a funeral should be treated as a church, a building, that can’t be entered by just anyone during a funeral. Stop these wackos.

“Where’s the money come from?”

An excellent question. This bunch is a prime example of psychotics claiming to be a Christian theology. Their “morality” is self appointed and justified by cherry picking biblical passages to hide behind while ignoring Christ's message. They are as scary as the jihadists, and possibly more dangerous.

Indeed, Christ did not chastise the Centurion for being a soldier, but marveled at his faith.....

Christ, and only Christ will change swords into plow shares...only at his return.

Luk 7:2 And a certain centurion's bondman who was dear to him was ill and about to die;
Luk 7:3 and having heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, begging him that he might come and save his bondman.
Luk 7:4 But they, being come to Jesus, besought him diligently, saying, He is worthy to whom thou shouldest grant this,
Luk 7:5 for he loves our nation, and himself has built the synagogue for us.
Luk 7:6 And Jesus went with them. But already, when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent to him friends, saying to him, Lord, do not trouble thyself, for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof.
Luk 7:7 Wherefore neither did I count myself worthy to come to thee. But say by a word and my servant shall be healed.
Luk 7:8 For *I* also am a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this one , Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my bondman, Do this, and he does it .
Luk 7:9 And Jesus hearing this wondered at him, and turning to the crowd following him said, I say to you, Not even in Israel have I found so great faith.

Three or so years ago the scum showed up here in Reno at a soldiers funeral. There were easily a 1,000 patriots there to protect the family. One of the dirt bags got onto private property and got in the face of the mother. One of the PGR leaders took him down. Before I could get there there were 40 PGR's and friends of mine pounding the snot out of the guy. When the Sheriff's Deputies finally decided to break it up they moved the scum to the street where they were surrounded ten deep with patriots with signs bigger than theirs. The family did not have to see them when the procession left. What they saw was a street lined with patriots and flags. Closet have come to outright homicide in many years. Oh and the PGR guy is now one of my close friends.

Great “cause” for a flash mob. And that should be happening every time these people show up. Were they to show up in my area, I’d attend the “mob meeting.” Not to necessarily hurt them, but enough people could scare the hell out of them.

According to second hand information in this area the Westboro Baptist Church protests are being handled by those in charge of the various cemeteries as follows:

The "church" members and their children are isolated as far as possible from the decease's family. Out of sight and out of hearing if possible. The local sheriff is ask to help in this regard.

Never, never are the members or the young children with them are to be touched in any way.

Groups like the Patriot Riders seem to help contain these people.

There appear to be ways that are planned in advance that keep them away from the grieving family and other mourners.

These plans are not in writing, but the information is passed around.

OBGYN doctors should have protested instead given how she joined her husband as shyster lawyers using fraudulent “science” to win tens of millions in lawsuits and drive innocent OBGYNs out of business. Elizabeth Edwards was a despicable human being well before she became lionized as a wife and then cancer victim.

I was wondering about Elizabeth Edwards when she got such an aggressive form of Breast Cancer. I have heard that there is a link between Breast Cancer and the abortion of a first pregnancy. It would be very sad if E. E. did not turn to God before she died.

Naa - just the way she seemed more interested in her pushing her husband’s career at any cost to her family. The way they both manipulated everyone by their big ‘announcement’ that he would continue his (futile) run for the big prize...it was a stunt and she let him use her that way.

The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church - monitored by anti-hate groups such as the Anti-Defamation league and the Southern Poverty Law Center - is known for its extremism——opposes homosexuals, Jews and other groups, and the war in Iraq.

I have to agree with you in principle, montag813. After reading The Politician and Game Change with first hand accounts by many who knew both John and Elizabeth, it
is impossible not to come away with disdain and lack of respect for this “charmless” woman, as one Freeper put it.

She was ruthless and obsessed with power and though the marriage was loveless, she sought to launch “Two America” Johnnie into power at all costs to her family.

I wouldn’t wish cancer on anyone. But the agony of
living with an unfaithful spouse was something she probably contributed to. She married the rat. And from personal experience, once a cheater, always a cheater.

According to accounts from residents in their neighborhood, they were a most unfriendly and unlikable twosome.
John was often seen jogging and he never returned waves from passers by.

She was supposed to be a grudge holder and very vindictive against anyone(former friends included) who betrayed them. See: Andrew Young.
Those who were unlucky enough to come face to face with her anger and words of scorn were undoubtedly confounded by the unending praise and media gushing about her wonderful personality, generosity and loving nature which helped her cope through it all.

Upcoming Oprah two parter: “Elizabeth Edwards:Courage in the Face of Adversity”.

The way she lived her life represents less nobility and victimhood and more spiritual bankruptcy, if truth be told.

No doubt she was a good mother in many ways.
Hopefully, she found Christ before she died and was able to make restitution in her heart.

Oh, and to choose to hold the hand of your lying, cheating
scumbag of a former spouse on your deathbed? It’d make more sense to go out in the presence of your accountant, mailman or plumber.

They are not Baptists, nor are they Christians.

What they are is a family of lowlife lawyers who make a living by generating entrapment cases where they dare someone to assault them. Then they sue everyone in sight, including the various law enforcement jurisdictions and local governments for failing to protect them from the evil public.

The Anti-Defamation league is running a protection racket and the Southern Poverty Law Center is a scam. Read on.

REFERENCE As of 2007 the “tax-exempt non-profit” SPLC had amassed $190 million dollars making it one of the most profitable in America.

QUESTION: Can SPLC produce records on how they spent tax-exempt money? Oh, nevermind. The IRS, SEC, FBI, Congress and the GAO can find out (/snix).

SCAM-A-RAMA Morris Seligman Dees, Jr. is co-founder and chief trial counsel for the tax-exempt Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

Dees was one of the principal architects of an innovative strategy of using civil lawsuits to secure a court judgment for money damages against an organization for a wrongful act and then use the courts to seize its assets (money, land, buildings, other property) to pay the judgment.

========================================

ANALYSIS SPLC'S modus operandi is strikingly similar to the Milberg Weiss law firm's "class action" scam. Read on.

NYP---June 3, 2008 -- Mel Weiss, co-founder and chief trial counsel for the securities law firm Milberg LLP, was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for illegally paying clients to file shareholder suits that prosecutors said earned $251 million in lawyer fees. Weiss pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy, admitting he helped secretly pay a stable of plaintiffs to file suits 1979-2005. By using them to sue first, the firm was more likely to lead cases and reap larger fees.

"Weiss was widely recognized as the king of the plaintiffs' securities bar," said Jacob Frenkel, a former federal prosecutor. Yesterday's sentence, along with a similar prison term for Weiss' ex-partner, Bill Lerach, caps a victory for the Justice Department in its effort to combat shareholder litigation and the two men who pioneered the modern securities fraud class action.

Weiss, Lerach and their counterparts engineered cases and paid litigants to sue that forced companies to pay $45 billion.........,and damaged millions of stockholders.

Milberg became so feared by corporations that Congress passed a law making it harder to file such suits. Weiss's former law firm dropped him from its name when he pleaded guilty. Lerach made a plea deal in a scheme prosecutors alleged involved kickback payments to plaintiffs in class action lawsuits he and his former law firm brought. Court papers say that the two employed the scheme for more than two decades in 150 cases that brought their firm more than $200 million in fees (that we know of).

Milberg Weiss, the NY law firm where was indicted on conspiracy, mail fraud and money laundering charges in May 2006.

In Lerach's agreement to plead guilty to a conspiracy charge, Justice Department lawyers agreed not to prosecute him over "election, campaign, or other political contributions" related to shady donations to the John Edwards campaign.

========================================

L/E needs to determine whether SPLC used collusion and conspiracy to extort monies. For example, SPLC officers may have committed government fraud and may have integrated schemes such as:

(a) misusing reserve accounts, (b) concealing losses, (c) inflating asset values and (d) improperly accounting for transactions, as well as (e) diverting monies into reserve accounts, (f) improperly shifting govt funding to other projects to hide illegal payments, (g) engaging in money laundering schemes, (h) evading IRS, FEC, and US banking laws, and (i) engaging in illegal conversions)

FBI TIP PAGE http://tips.fbi.gov/ (you may remain anonymous)

The IRS should relentlessly determine if all income was reported and whether all relevant taxes were paid (stolen money is taxable).
IRS TOLL-FREE 1-800-829-0433 (you may remain anonymous when reporting possible tax fraud).

========================================

REFERENCE----ANIMAL RIGHTS SHAKEDOWN EXPOSED America's farmers, ranchers, hunters, fishermen, research scientists, fashion designers, and restaurateurs have seen for decades how the animal rights movement is like a mobbed-up shakedown racket.

A Federal judge ruled "animal rights defendants" collaborated to bribe a "barn helper" w/ $190,000 in exchange for his impeached testimony. A "nonprofit charity"---called the Wildlife Advocacy Project---- was used to funnel the money from a law firm to the bribed plaintiff.

........“the $PLC now has an account in the notorious tax haven and money-laundering location of the Cayman Islands!” The SPLC receive $2.9 million from the Picower Foundation, set up by Jeffry Picower, reported to have been the biggest beneficiary of the Madoff scam”.....
