DeMint: Wait for Marco Rubio, Rand Paul before dealing on tax cuts

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) urged his GOP Senate colleagues Friday to reject a deal on the extension of Bush-era tax cuts and wait until the incoming crop of GOP senators are sworn in to move forward.

In an e-mail to supporters of his Senate Conservatives Fund, DeMint said waiting until the January arrival of many of the Senate Republicans, whom he helped elect this past cycle, would mean the GOP could "fight for a better deal."

"I appreciate the efforts made by my party's leaders to negotiate this deal but I believe Americans deserve much better. This deal should be rejected and then fixed," DeMint wrote. "We can easily extend these tax rates without increasing spending once the new crop of Republican senators, including Pat Toomey, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Ron Johnson are sworn in."

DeMint's Senate Conservatives Fund endorsed and offered fundraising help to all five of those newly elected GOP senators in 2010.

Yes, not looking to buy something from a salesman that is out of breath.

I’m sure I heard this from Howie Carr.

I would rather pay 2-3 k in taxes than support 2 million illegal aliens that will steal my nation from my kids. I support DeMint & his advice.

I’ve heard DeMint be pretty unequivocal about the fact that he isn’t going to run in 2012, which is a darn shame. He’s one of a handful I’d love to see toss his hat in the ring.

I have doubts as to whether the lameduck Pubbies have any desire whatsoever to wait for the new conservative Senators so they can get a better deal. I’m not sure they want a better deal. They might actually be in a hurry to get this passed as is while they can.

DeMint equivocates each time right after being unequivocal. He’s pondering it.

They aren’t going to listen to DeMint and they aren’t going to listen to us. I’m hoping they’ll listen to Kraut since he’s not considered one of “us” by the Establishment.

Seriously just kill it. Killing it not only stops reckless spending but forces them to answer to their pledge not to proceed on DREAM or START until tax cuts are enacted and the budget dealt with.

Obama seems more then ready to capitulate and toss Democrats to the wolves. The House would construct a better deal and there are enough vulnerable Democrats in the Senate that it should be able to be passed through without a filibuster. Just wait until January.

Pubbies want a bit more spending and a lot of tax cuts. Unlike the Dems who want a lot of spending and a little bit of tax cuts. The political party that wins? The Communist Party of China.

In Pelosi’s last election, well, election before last, the 2008 elections, ..... she declared a “National Mandate” based upon her 150,000 local San Fran votes....then.... Rubio and Paul can also declare a “NATIONAL MANDATE” based upon their Tennessee and Florida votes.

Justice !!!

Excellent idea. This bill is full of lard and needs to be squashed.

Old tortoise head needs to be removed.

I’m sure folks down in the Volunteer state would like to claim him, but Rand Paul was elected by and will serve the very independent citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky...

..and I hope that our current leader in the Senate, also from Kentucky, puts the brakes on all lame-duck activities and waits for the reinforcements to take positions...

The political party that wins? The Communist Party of China.

Sadly, that's a conclusion I wouldn't argue with, friend.
