Hackers steal McDonald's customer data
Compromised information includes names, postal and e-mail addresses, phone numbers and age-verification data

McDonald's is working with law enforcement authorities after malicious hackers broke into another company's databases and stole information about an undetermined number of the fast food chain's customers.

McDonald's has also alerted potentially affected customers via e-mail and through a message on its website.

"We have been informed by one of our long-time business partners, Arc Worldwide, that limited customer information collected in connection with certain McDonald’s websites and promotions was obtained by an unauthorized third party," a McDonald's spokeswoman said via e-mail on Saturday.

Who registers as a McD’s customer? I just walk in, order the double cheeseburger and leave.

Well, I don’t. But I wouldn’t sign up for anything, either.

I have never given that kind of info to McD’s, they don’t even ask for my name. Of course, I pay in cash.

It is amazing that people will pay a $3.00 or more credit card charge on top of a $5.00 meal.

Food Nazis probably stole this information to use to push for a fast food tax.

The most amazing thing to me is even after learning about these breaches, many executives still take the, “it can’t happen here” attitude. Most even think they’re doing all that is necessary, even when told that their data is at risk. I’ve seen it far too many times. I’ve said it before and it’s still just as relevant: IT security, with the only possible exception being banking, is so lax as to be pathetic.

FReepers, remember this the next time you go to your doctor’s or dentist’s office (HIPPA is a joke) or give your employer information they need, this information is quite likely easily stolen.

No, it just for age verification for on-line games they play like with codes on their cups or Monopoly pieces. They don’t have your credit card info or anything like that, basically about what someone could figure out by looking in a phone book is all.

Anyone stupid enough to give them their SS or credit card number to play a game deserves to get a harsh life lesson IMHO.

I use my debit card all the time, nice not to have to worry if I have enough cash on me and I don’t want to ever use a credit card again.
