Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh won't run for governor in 2012
The Washington Post ^ | 12/11/10 | Chris Cillizza

Indiana Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh has decided against a run for governor in 2012, robbing Democrats of their top recruit in the Hoosier State.

"After careful consideration, I have concluded that the appropriate decision is not to be a candidate for governor of Indiana in 2012," Bayh said in a statement released to the Fix. ""The principle reason for my decision is the welfare of my twin sons."

Bayh's decision leaves the Democratic field wide open. Reps. Brad Ellsworth and Baron Hill, both of whom lost races this fall, are likely to consider the Bayh-less contest. Others mentioned include Rep. Joe Donnelly, Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel and former state House Speaker John Gregg.

The Republican field remains uncertain. Some believe that Rep. Mike Pence will be the GOP candidate although the House member seems to be far more interested in a run for president in 2012. If Pence doesn't run, Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman is a likely candidate.

Good. If Congressman Mike Pence runs, it’s his regardless.

Bayh would have been a prohibitive favorite in IN. I see Mike Pence retaining the governorship for the GOP.

I take it that Daniels is term limited, and will either be running for President or leaving politics?

Oh please, please Baron Hill - they can recycle his votes in favor of the health care bill and other far left policies, bring Pelosi back into the race, and also his yelling at constituents that was caught on tape and posted on YouTube. That would be a dream ticket for the GOP to run against.

Yes Daniels is term limited. I was surprised Bayh could run again. Daniels and Pence are both rumored to be running for president.

Indiana law says the governor can’t serve three “consecutive” terms.

Bayh will be Hillary’s VP pick.

Or the other way around.

Hillary ain't running, or walking or doing anything except trying to get out of debt.

While Bayh really doesn't have anything on his platter.......

He may just run, she won't, (if she was, she would have to resign asap to put together a staff), but it doesn't mean she can't support Bayh.

I don’t know, especially with Bill effectively dismissing Soetoro the other day...the Clintons need the presidency.

LOL sounds like you get those same pleading emails from Billy J asking for bucks for Hillary's 2008 campaign fund.

All while the Clintons are making mega millions and living like potentates.

Of course Evan himself graduated from the prestigious St. Albans in Wash DC while dad was a US Senator (as did Algore, LOL).

I can understand that he might not want to subject the twins to the hardships of life back here in Indiana.......

One of my friends, as a joke started sending me the e-mails.

She comes across as a panhandler, its impossible to take her seriously, some of these e-mails make it sound like she is a war hero one step away from living on the streets.

You know that she is having her DVDs sold on the Home Shopping Network (autographed) ?

WHat they need, is to find some self respect and dignity and stop hawking cheap DVDs on the Home Shopping network while begging for handouts due to debt from her last campaign.

Stick a fork in her, she's done, and she is so far in debt, that its going to take years and years for her to even get to a level where she could compete. SHe also has lost her entire campaign staff.
