The passions that swirled around Bush v. Gore, the Supreme Court case that ended 10 years ago Sunday, dissipated quickly. And remarkably little damage was done by the institutional collisions that resulted when control of the nation's supreme political office turned on 537 votes out of 5,963,110 cast in Florida.
Many controversies concerned whether particular votes could be said to have been cast properly. Chads are those bits of paper that, when a ballot is properly cast by puncturing spots next to candidates' names, are separated from the ballot. In Florida, there were "dimpled" chads that were merely dented and "hanging" chads not separated from the ballots. Furthermore, there were undervotes (ballots with no vote for president) and overvotes (votes for two presidential candidates) and ill-designed (by a Democrat) butterfly ballots.

LMAO!! The Sore Loserman signs. Always a classic! I went to a few protests at the MN state capital, and someone was handing those out to everyone!
What we also learned during this fiasco was that when Dems bussed people in to protest (many of whom were grabbed off welfare lines) they were “concerned citizens demanding justice.” However, when Pubs came in on their own dimes, the press referred to them sneeringly as “Republican Operatives.” Never has the bias of the media been on such blatant display.

The Left will forgive GWB and the Supreme Court about the same time it acknowledges that Alger Hiss was a Communist stooge.
They are STILL whining abut it.
The Court should never have heard that case.

They had to hear it. The Florida Supreme Court was allowing the Constitution to be violated.
A roller coaster ride I hope never to be on again.

And the sad thing is that the turmoil from that event has led to 10 straight years of instability in this nation.

After Freeping the Big Creep for years thought I could go into semi-retirement. But the Gore Wars soon followed.
I watched the fox special last night. I really forgot what a bad speech impediment Gore had.
So what?
The FLASC could not compel Secretary Harris to certify the Gore slate. The FL Legislature has the constitutional responsibility to direct the appointment of electors. FLASC has no role.
It is certain, whatever pretended decision came from FLASC, that the Legislature could have and would have appointed a slate of Bush electors.
When, on January 3, 2001, the President of the Senate announced that two slates of electors had been sent from FL, the Republican Congress would have chosen the Bush electors, as was their constitutional role and right to do.
This would have had 3 beneficial effects: 1) It would have followed the Constitution; 2) It would have diminished the power of the courts; 3) It would have increased the power of the People.
As it happened, all of the effects of USSC sticking its nose into (another) political question where it did not belong were bad.

Ah. Sore/Loserman. We carried those signs in Legislative Plaza at the state capitol. I even xeroxed one several times and made up a big sign with several of them on one sign (not in color, though). My husband even demonstrated, and he is not one to demonstrate.
That's what happens when the Constitution is ignored.
The procedure for chusing electors is clearly laid out in the Constitution. The state legislatures have SOLE authority over state procedures. The courts have NOTHING to do with it.
After electors are chosen, the entire process is political. If that is not a political, nonjusticeable question, nothing is.
Bush's grounds for a suit before USSC were pathetic. His case belonged before Congress, where, it is beyond question, he would have prevailed - but in a legal and Constitutional manner which would have been beyond dispute.
I signed up on election day that year. I missed my 10 year anniversary.
