Yuhanna Abdulah Williams? Let's not blame the Amish any more, this guy may have been Morman or Southern Baptist or something....

Merry Christmas, the law abiding citizen made a joyful noise of the season and went home to his family. I love a heartwarming story at Christmas time.

The cleansing of the gene pool continues. This one sounds like a two-fer—muslim and amish.

Bringing slaves to this country was a really bad idea.

I would be interested in how long old Abdulah had been a resident of Covington.

Another attempted robbery attempt that went well.

Bringing slaves to this country was a really bad idea.

It seems so in hindsight. Slavery is the original sin of America, it stains our Constitution and we are living with the consequences. We need to deal with it like adults. We should treat people as individuals and judge them by their deeds, not their skin color.

I expect the deceased in this instance was probably more your garden-variety thug than your devout Muslim.

I have known African-American mothers in the South who named their children Muslim-sounding names while themselves knowing little or nothing about Islam.

It's also entirely possible that the deceased here was given a different name at birth and "converted" to Islam; it does frequently happen in prison. In that case, he was still probably about 90% garden-variety street thug.

In any case, my sympathies are entirely with the young man who was forced to defend himself. I am happy he had the means and ability to do so, but sorry he was forced to use them.

The dead guy was 30 years old so no doubt he had spent time in prison where he may have taken a Muslim name. Regardless, the name is once again available for any takers.

Their deeds are a reflection of their culture. Their culture is a choice.

Kind of believe the people in this circumstance (converts etc) do the whole routine.

Remember, it wasn’t Kareem Abdul Alcindor....

Think the reasoning being they are/were dumping their ‘slave’ name such as Smith, Jones, Jefferson etc etc...

Certainly slavery was a horrid institution, but if you believe that slavery has anything to do with the current state of blacks in America, you're of the type of mindset that can justify reparations.

I would proffer that the dysfunction in much of the black community is more the result of LBJ's great society than anything else.

I looked at the location on google maps. It is an upscale shopping center, well lit etc.

The robbers might have been watching an ATM machine and picked their victim that way. Otherwise, one would think they'd go after a female...grab the purse and run.

Good thing the victim didn’t live in New York. Right now he’d be facing two or more years in prison and a felony conviction. See:

I think this is a more typical scenario for a civilian. When we are told that a head shot is difficult to make during a running gun battle with ranges measured in yards, like in a practical pistol match, it is true for cops and troops who might encounter this situation. But for us civilians, a street confrontation is more likely to be a mugging and the shot may be measured in inches not feet but certainly no more than a very few feet.
In that situation a head shot is not out of the question because the civilian is usually looking at one of two things, either the attackers eyes or his weapon. So you might as well shoot at what you are looking at, as you would during a period of extreme stress.
A LEO, when approaching a threat, will scan the area for other threats, look at the subjects hands and movements, clothes, etc. looking for weapons or contraband and be positioning himself for a possible violent encounter. PLUS, he has been trained to look for the front sight and aim at center of mass while distancing himself from the threat and looking for cover. AND his weapon will be readily available.
For a civilian, I am reminded of the movie, “Body Heat”, where the lover, upon hearing the young daughter enter the house, jumps naked out of the window and stands, momentarily, in front of the girl. When asked to describe the man, the LEO said the young girl seemed to think he was bald, had only one eye and was about 6 inches tall.
What attracts the attention of civilians is not the same as what a LEO will be looking at, we will be staring at the Bad Guys eyes or his great big gun or knife. So a head shot, at 3 feet, is not out of the question, while falling backwards, struggling and screaming. Body shots are made when the shot is taken from inside the pocket or purse because there is no time to get the gun out.
So I say to practice what you are going to do in a real world situation, shoot at his eyes, multiple times. I swing a 2 liter bottle on a string and shoot as it passes and I shoot at floating marshmallows in the rapids.

That is kind of a broadbrush statement.

Are you suggesting the ‘Indentured Servants’ were any better off than slaves?
Probably the ‘only’ difference being that they could presumably get out of their ‘contract’ when it was fulfilled, which on occasion didn’t happen.
Granted it was easier for the Indentured Servants to blend in with the ‘regular folk’ if they should happen to escape.

Would kind of figure the ‘African Slaves’ were brought in when the ‘Irish, English etc ‘slave market’ dried up or was basically stamped down’.

Do a little research on ‘Indentured Servants’ and you will see where I am ‘coming from’.

Guy from Covington keeps a hunting cabin here along the Yukon, good respectable guy; I’d figure Covington must be a good place to call home. Find it hard to believe Abdulah could call Covington home also.
