Sadly, they interrupted him and didn’t let him make his statement first. :-(

Well at least he didn’t do it in front of a camera like Budd Dwyer.

Budd Dwyer made a statement and warned people to leave if offended, but right at the end, things were rushed as people approached him.

Generally there is court supervision. It is not a “perk”.

If he dies prior to being convicted and all appeals exhausted, his family gets to keep any life insurance and retirement pay and benefits.

Even the IRS can’t go after those assets.

Sure wish they would make arrangements for their organs before they do it. My husband is a heart transplant recipient, it has always amazed us that people who commit suicide have no understanding of the value of their lives to others.

Yes, but creditors can go after probate assets, assets that are in his name alone. The IRS may even be able to go after assets held jointly with his wife. If he was stealing from his trust accounts it's probably safe to infer that he didn't have a whole lot.

Based on an earlier post I looked into the Bud Dwyer suicide, which I had forgotten about. It seems that his family did get his pension even though he had been convicted. Against my better judgment I took a look at the video. Definitely not for the squeamish.

“Bud Dwyer called a press conference to make sure nobody had any confusion on how it happened. That was nasty. I think it was a 357 Magnum.”

I saw the video. Pulled the 357, put in mouthy, pull trigger. Slid down wall. Hit floor, Blood speudeddd from mothey. For 1 minute....

neet!

Geeee—Maybe Springfi9eld does not have any ‘residency’ requirement for the Mayor’s job.

Maybe Rahm could get this job instead of Chicago??

I agree. There is life after error. Blago is proof of that. What does it take to put oneself in a place so dark that suicide seems like a reasonable option? Sad day here in Springfield, politics notwithstanding.

Judges generally get their cut.

If somebody dies with no next-of-kin, who's to know?

PS - I have witnessed this first hand. I can give you a name if you wish.

"Police Chief Robert Williams says officers responded to a 911 call shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday at Davlin’s home and found the Democratic mayor dead. Williams declines to offer details about how Davlin died, saying the investigation is in its infancy.

In other words, they are still figuring out how to classify a shotgun blast to the BACK of the head a "suicide".

He took the honorable way out, and saved court costs to boot.

Yep, no point in charging him with Failure to Appear at this point.

The irony is that some lawyer will probably steal from his estate.
